a lot of them here in corpus christi. those numbers have been climbing steadily over the last several hours, of course, as people come to realize and report in, hey, we don't have any power here, some of the lucky people, though, are here in corpus christi right behind me, you can see some lights. those people have obviously not lost power. some of the areas further inland from here have. now we also have a situation on south padre island, one of the barrier islands here, just off the coast of corpus christi. corpus christi firefighters have been over there. they were battling a major house fire. those were their words over there. obviously, the chief was concerned about having to dispatch firefighters to fight that fire in the middle of a hurricane. now, that has been a concern about how first responders would handle some of these dangerous winds and the potential for flash flooding here as well. again we are told that firefighters have been over there trying to dell with that fire and keep it from spreading to any other

corpus christi is on the good side of the storm.ound on land and capture some friction and slows down a bit. this is still a nasty storm as you're talking about winds 90, 100 miles-an-hour around a whole lot of rain. here's the storm surgical on the right side. you're -- surge on the right side and you're talking about a good 10 feet. that's going to be all night because this is such a slow-moving system. the second concern is going to be rain. the reason rain's such a big problem is there's nowhere for this to go. typically you see it run onshore and then inland. we have a high pressure system blocking it and bounce off it and eventually back towards the shore and then it's no longer a hurricane in the next couple days and meanders around the coast. moving inland, approaching san antonio, drifting back to the coast and lingering. at this point i'm thinking to monday, tuesday, perhaps wednesday we're still seeing rainfall. i'll leave you with this. look at this potential path as we're looking at it just sitting there. it bounces up

so no flights in and out of corpus christi. odd story coming out of here from corpus christi police. at 11:00 p.m. tonight just as hurricane harvey was making land fall just north of here, a homeowner shot and intruder. police had to go respond to that. in the middle of the category four storm. they say the intruder of coherent as he was transported today a local hospital. but again, these were first responders that were forced to go out and respond to an incident in the middle of the massive winds, torrential rain that we have been experiencing here in corpus christi. and that was the concern from city officials throughout the day. just how first responders would handle dealing with the hurricane and responding to those in need. this situation they were able to do it safely. >> thank god for that. it seems like it's calm where you are. was it this way earlier as well? >> no it was not. again the winds keep shifting. the longer we stand out here we see the difference. we notice variations in which way the winds is blowing. righ

only 115 miles southeast of corpus christi. we keep saying that because that's where the eye of the storm is heading, winds at 110 miles per hour and still moving northwest at 10 miles per hour. we can do the easy math on that. we're now about 11 to 12 hours from the center eye coming over the top or very near corpus christi. here's the updated forecast path of the hurricane center. they think it has an excellent chance of gaining 10 more miles per hour and becoming a major category 3. 7:00 p.m. we're talking about -- this is local time here, the sun is setting and hurricane force winds are now coming onshore as the sun is setting in this area. after this the storm will weaken slowly and still think it can do this buttonhook here. maybe only as a tropical storm but regardless this is tuesday and this is wednesday up here near galveston and galveston bay area. that's the long term trend. we'll deal with the immediate threat the landfalling storm in the eye and storm surge that comes along with it. this is at 5:00 p.m. this eveni
