ktvu news at noon. >> they claim there is progress to report. good afternoon. i am claudine wong. police say in the crack down against crime the city won key battles. what the department just finished in a press conference to announce new victories. allie rasmus joins us now. >> reporter: the police chief and the mayor touted the system. >> reporter: this is what officers see and hear. it was used this weekend. police found the gun and were able to take it off the street. they have had the technology since 2005 but they recently upgraded it. police get to see the location on the computers in their cars within 45 seconds of a shot being system. it custs $800,000 -- it costs $800,000 a year. this year there have been 2,000 shots fired in oakland. the residents only call into report 30% of the time. so police are hoping to improve the response rate and respond to the crime with this new technology. >> we are hoping the public sees there is another way to get involved, there is confidence in the fact that we are taking the calls seriously and this impacts their community. >> the techn

claudine wong. that bridge shut down last night so crews could begin their round the clock work. ktvu'sdge right now getting the up close look only the progress piece made on the project expected to last three days. and she'll have a report coming up. this is the bridge that connects the east bay to the peninsula, it's going to be closed for the weekend while crews install seismic joints. that should better protect the bridge during earthquake. caltrans hopes to open the bridge tuesday morning at 5, until then people who normally use that bridge are going to have to use another one or drive around the bay. here's a look at your alternate routes. you can either head north and go across the 98 bridge, or you can go south and get around the bay on highway 237. >>> muni riders will have to survive awhile without the most used rail line in the city. they're shutting down service last night and it's going to be out for nine days due to some construction at church. muni says 20,000 people ride the line every weekday. and it runs from observation beach to the caltrain station near at&t park. >>
