clayton, what can you tell us? >> reporter: good evening, dan. well, one member of giffords' medical team told us today that they are, in fact, going to delay her transfer to this rehab facility, and one of the reasons is that surgeons have been concerned about a buildup of fluid in the congresswoman's brain. now, last week they installed a drain to drain some of that fluid away and they don't want to move her until they can remove that drain. they're worried about infection. >> do we know if this is a serious setback or something that's par for the course in cases like this? >> reporter: doctors we spoke to today said it is fairly common after a major head trauma and surgery for fluid to build up and for a drain to be installed. but it's important to know where exactly that fluid is building up and where the drain has been installed. right now, we don't have those kind of details from her medical team. and dan, we have learned that members of giffords tucson medical team that helped her after the initial shooting as well as her intern, daniel he

clayton sandell is in houston with the details. good morning. >> reporter: hi.the medical team tells us they are going to delay her transfer from the intensive care unit to the rehabilitation center right behind me. one of the reasons that they are concerned is fluid buildup around the congresswoman's brain. last week in tucson surgeons installed a tube to help drain some fluid away. her medical team does not want to move her until it is removed. they're worried about infection. as for how big a setback this is, right now we don't know. doctors tell us, it is fairly common for fluid like this to build up and a drain to be needed after a major head trauma and surgery. it's also important to know where the drain is installed and where the fluid is building up. right now, those are details the medical team has not provided to us. abc news has also learned that members of giffords' tucson medical team, as well as her intern, daniel hernandez who tended to the congresswoman immediately after she was shot, will all be headed to washington, d.c. they're going to be gue
