the area of high pressure in the pacific is building closer to the west coast. it will squeeze the atmosphere over the bayt. we will get gusty officer went developing over the next couple of days. not a problem this evening, mostly less than 10 miles per hour, and they won't be that strong tomorrow. 15 to 20 mile-per-hour range, most of us lower than that. not nearly strong enough to prompt and wind advisory or high wind warning, but noticeable, and it is a warmer and continued dry direction. they will die down a bit on thursday, with the strongest gust around 10 miles per hour. friday looks like the windiest day, with the 20 to 30 mile-per- hour range, especially for the higher elevations of the north bay, or around the bay area. that is strong enough at the lower elevations to move you around on the boat a little bit , whenever the wind is between 20 to 25 miles per hour. again, an offshore wind, so it won't do a whole lot to improve our air quality, which wasn't awful today. it was pretty good around san francisco and oakland. moderate readings around in the in parts of the east bay in north bay. the w

, 7,000 miles away from all of this, we're expecting the potential for some tsunami waves on the order of one to two feet to, affect the west coast in the vicinity of the bay area around 8:10 this morning and they're not expecting coastal innidation, but those are the kinds that could effect swimmers in the waters. if you're close to the beach, you can get a sudden surge of waves on to the shore on you line. it's not something you want to go down to the cost and watch. stay away from the coast. get out of the water. they're not expecting at this point huge implications from this. nevertheless, there is a tsunami advisory because of the eruption of that undersea volcano off of the tongan islands with the waves racing to the west cost. the entire west coast is under the tsunami advisory to oregon and the coast line of mexico and that is something we watch and wait. again, not looking for huge impacts from this and the worse thing to do is go down and watch. it would be a good idea to secure the interests and it's just a heads up. in terms of weather, we have he clouds over the bay area. and numbers are in the 40s and 50s, and there is no rain in sight. as fa

of tuesday afternoon. temperatures dropping down to the upper 30s for parts of the northbay, low to mid 40s for most of us with warmer temperatures around the bay and along the coast. high temperatures tomorrow will be almost exactly normal for this time of year. cool spots along the coast will be in the mid and upper 50s. temperatures in the low and mid 60s inland in the santa clara valley. for parts of the east bay, 60 degrees. everyone within a degree or two above normal for mid-january. temperatures near 60 degree high temperatures for most of the bay, cooler for coastal locations in the northbay. temperatures further inland warming up just a couple of degrees into the 60s. the warm-up starts to kick in on thursday and the warmest days look to be friday and saturday. low to mid 60s around the bay at least into the mid 60s for san jose. and servant of at this point with how much temperatures will warm up. could easily get into the upper 60s for the santa clara valley. low to mid-60s on a widespread basis even along the coast, temperatures likely to get above 60 degrees for several days in a row and no rain in the extended forecast. we will keep looking for it w

just getting a few clouds coming down into the bay area, but still, not seeing much in the way of active weather as high pressure sets up right off of our coastat's keeping the rain away from the bay area. so that high pressure is not moving and so that's the reason why we'll continue to see sunshine and mild temperatures slowly as we go into next week. we'll start to see that high pressure moving off towards the east and then we'll start to see the storm track coming a little farther down. but it looks like we'll not so that happen until about the end of the month. we could start to see that atmospheric river headed back our way. near normal temperatures, sunshine and really nice conditions. and we are expecting a slight increase in cloud cover for thursday and friday and that's going to bring down our temperatures a few degrees. but then going into the weekend, we're back to the sunshine and the nice mild weather and then reaching into the low 60s for saturday and sunday. for san francisco, more of the same. basically what we're seeing now, but once again, there could be a few more clouds moving in by the end of the week. not a whole lot go

of the u.s. west coast canceled its advisory last night. the bay area is still reacting to the tsunami causing a lot of excitement and anxiety. it brought high water and some damage to the region. first responders say it was a wake-up call to be prepared. we are joined live in our newsroom. reporter: tsunami advisory got the attention of most of us. likely many wondering what would we do during a major tsunami emergency? first responders say be ready and have a plan. it began with the eruption of an underwater volcano in tonga. tsunami waves rushed in here on saturday. big waves crashed onto the pacifica waterfront. >> holy [bleep]. reporter: timber ripped a boat off from in front of this apartment complex. panicked residents ran to safety. hours later the water receded but the damage was done. >> i will take tsunami alerts more seriously. reporter: at the marina, more than 100 people were evacuated from their boats as a precaution. >> i got a ss72 alert on my phone. reporter: thousands received the alerts about the tsunami advisory and first respo

the north bay, dense fog. one mile of visibility from petaluma to santa rosa. 101 especially impacted this morning. even along the coastacted as well. that will linger through 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. temperatures basically in the low 50's. not too chilly for this time of year. let's go hour-by-hour. later today, 9:00 a.m., still socked in with cloud cover. later this afternoon, should see some sunshine here or there, but clouds will rule our sky for much of the day today. under those cloudy skies, you don't need raingear. dry, upper 50's to lower 60's. 58 san francisco, 62 san jose, 59 santa rosa, filet hoe and conquered -- santa rosa, vallejo, and concord. the next chance for any wet weather will come friday. after that, dry over the weekend and next week. after friday, we could go one to two weeks underneath this dry pattern. we will show you the chance here on friday coming up in nine minutes. first, a check of our roadways. >> we are going to start with a crash i am falling in hayward. it will be on southbound 880 at a street. zooming into the map so you can see the impacted area. it is slow, around 20 miles per hour. he

of those clear conditions we're seeing across the region. showers to our north will contribute to additional rainfall and mountain snowfall. the tops of the north coast ranges throughout the course of your morning bay area. the were on the drier side of things. a couple of misty spots here and there, but really not much to know. futurecast shows as we work our way through the day today, do expect increasingly clear skies. we may be partly cloudy start, but a mostly sunny afternoon is just around the corner on into tomorrow. more that sunshine and dry skies can be expected. the same can be said for wednesoay on into the remainder of the week after that. so here's wednesday are right at the stroke of midnight. you can see that we do have some showers out there sitting to the pacific northwest and lined up to our west. but high pressure is going to send all this moisture to the north for the time being on into friday. our next storm system in sight. but again, being sent to the north by this high-pressure ridge that is sending the jet stream up into the pacific northwest, keeping the bay area dry. southern california could see a few showers, especially in upper elevations, but the bay area not really

. >> to mix things expecting moderate amounts of pollutants in the north bay. the coast looks good for tomorrow. east bay still moderate amounts of pollutants. a little haze out there in the south bay as well. long range forecast. this where it gets interesting. of really since the second week in january, we have dry things out. and here's your big dome of high pressure still overhead. the track remaining well to the north with all the rain headed in that direction over the next couple days, that ridge starts to weaken a little bit. still, a lot of moisture headed up toward the pacific northwest, not even quite clipping northern california. we're going to see a couple passing clouds, but we're going to keep things dry now in the weekend, look at that dome of high pressure. just reestablish itself. after that system go through as we get into saturday and then onward as we head in toward the following week. he got a couple high clouds drifting further south in the san francisco in the bay area. but overall, that ridge is just too dominant. so right now we're going to keep

the next couple of days. there will be a system approaching the california coast, but not our part of the california coast. all it will do is send high clouds over the bay area for the next couple of days. we will stay dry through the weekend. cooler weather will come again as we had to the weekend. the onshore breeze will return. it does contain some moisture to help the visitation them about we just need some rain. we won't see any through the weekend. the beginning of february looks dry. we can look over the next 10 days, the american forecast model, with rain for all of the united states. a good chunk of north america, in fact. the first weekend in february, and every square inch of the u.s. will get some precipitation, not as much for the upper midwest, except california and nevada. we are just in this dome where everything is getting steered around us, so there is not much hope of rain for the first third of february. maybe further down the line we will get into a active weather pattern later in the month of february, but that is speculative that far down the line. it's hard to get any long-term improvement in the air quality without any rain. it

coast. stay tuned. we'll talk about the julian: welcome back to our live team coverage of the tsunami advisory that has been issued for much of the west coast and, of course, that includes us here in the baya. the live images you're looking at right now coming to us from sky seven. this is just south of half moon bay. we are beginning to see some pretty decent waves with up there -- whip up there. this tsunami advisory has been in effect for several hours now. the rip current could be just under those waters. that's why we are hearing from fire departments, coast guard telling folks, do not go to the beaches today. it is just not safe. and of course, meteorologist lisa argen has been tracking this throughout the morning for several hours now. we check back in with her right now. lisa: we've seen sudden drops and quick runoffs, and the gauges are responding in richmond, in alameda. but the strongest we've seen in terms of water rise has been along the central coast, from port st. louis, and also around santa cruz, where we've had minor flooding, where the water level has come up over 2.5 feet. we have high tide after 9:00 this morning. we had about a half a foot, little bit higher, .25. th
