from coleman advocates. did i say that wrong? >> i work at coleman advocates for children and youth. thank you for inviting me to present today. i wanted to start by greeting the trustees, commissioners, and supervisors. thank you for not letting this issue fadeaway. the issues we see in our schools are mirrored in our city. black and brown bodies are punished disproportionately by our systems. i think that is something we want to acknowledge as we enter into this conversation. i wanted to start for a personal story. i attended sfusd and city college. when i was in middle school, there was a fight on the bus that needed a police response. the police came, me and a couple of my friends were walking away from the scene of the incident where the bus had stopped at and kicked everyone off. the police officer drove up onto the curb, jumped out, made us lay down on the ground, i feel like the police officer pulled out his gun on us and that is something that still sticks with me today. clearly the officer wasn't trying to traumatize me
