first of all, comcast, walt covers comcast for us, this is going to be driven by what happens in broadbande of this. this is a really small part of comcast. this is a small part of nbc universal, smaller part of comcast. i think the reason why the stock goes up or down -- i think in this case it's benefitting as you talked about, andrew, because of what it signals. it signals comcast is not going to consolidate in cable networks. they're not buying wbd. they're not looking to grow this part of the business. they know what they want. they like theme parks, they like studio. they like broadcast tv and how peacock ties into that. they're not going to buy a large portfolio of cable networks. it's more of a, hey, first, comcast has not sold assets. when was the last time you and i were on tv on "squawk" talking about comcast shedding assets. >> right. >> that's a new thing. >> and on the new company, you know, part of the idea is that there's going to be additional capital that gets freed up that can get invested back into the business either by acquiring other businesses, investing in organic

the plan is comcast and the rest of the assets underneath comcast which is peacock and bravo trade higherause they are not encumbered by these long-term declining assets. the question will be how does this new spun off company trade on the public markets one wall street knows that the long-term future of cable is likely not a right one. then, this vehicle, does it become a rollup mechanism for other cable networks from existing media companies. >> like what? >> it could be the turner networks that come into this, possibly when the sky dance deal closes, if it closes for paramount. that company owns a ton of cable networks. perhaps they could be rolled into this. stars alliance games. perhaps stars, that premium network could be rolled into this. the idea would be built up for scale and potentially pay off a large dividend to investors because these things still make money and are all profitable assets. cable is probably a one-way train in one direction. that direction is declining as the world shifts to streaming. >> is there a bunch of mergers with all of these different spun off network

comcast is retaining nbc as well as bravo. nbc has nbc sports, which includes the nfl, and now nba rights starting next year. and then you also have all that reality tv content from bravo. so traditional, regular nbc, including nbc news, is going to remain part of this original company. the companies that spin off from that, including cnbc, may license back content to be on peacock, but they might also now have more flexibility to license elsewhere as well. >> do you get the sense that this was really put into motion in a very sort of more directed way after the election? seeing that there might be fewer regulatory barriers to, you know, combining these cable companies? >> well look, there are no regulatory issues to the split. there's no regulatory challenge there. and i think that's why they floated this well before the election. i also think that in splitting off these cable networks, the new company, the spin co, is small enough they can do acquisitions that probably wouldn't have been really problematic in the prior admin
