conrad murray told police he was treating jackson for insomnia for about six weeks. he gave jackson the sedative known as diprivan to help him sleep. that led the coroner to rule his death a homicide. >> it means legally taking the life of another. it means michael jackson did not die of natural causes. he was not a suicide. the government concluded that someone else killed him. there are a wide variety of charges within homicide. intentional homicide, you can get the death penalty for. negligent homicide is a much less serious crime. it's an unintentional negligent killing. certainly he seems to be in that end of the spectrum. no one seems to suggest that conrad murray intentionally killed jackson. >> murray told investigators he was trying to wean jackson off the propofol. he lowered the dosage and used two other sedatives two days before jackson died. on the night before jackson died he caved in to his demands and gave him propofol again. he also gave an account of what he says happened in the hours before jackson died. according to police documents he says he gav

conrad murray. ted rowlands is joining us now in los angeles. where were police? what are they looking for? >> reporter: well, according to a source familiar with the investigation, this is the fifth -- well, not according to the sources but this is the fifth search warrant issued in this case, the fifth one directed at conrad murray. according to the source, this is from las vegas. they came up with this one to a pharmacy not far away from where doctor conrad murray's clinic is in vegas. that assumption you had, this is where he could have gotten the poe poe thol. you do know. the coroner's office, they are done with their reporting and their investigation, the cause of death and the toxicology. the lapd said, instead of releasing it now, please hold off until we are done with our investigation so we can move forward united and clearly what we are seeing today happening right now in las vegas is that ongoing investigation from the lapd, which, according to this rs s source is an extension of that one. they are ibuilding a possible case against dr. conrad murray.

conrad murray is the focus of the police investigation.re other doctors involved as well -- the one investigators are trying to establish is if there is a case for manslaughter via medical negligence, for example. >> on that point, just briefly, if you can, there are reports going around that the coroner ruled that jackson's death was homicide which would make criminal charges more likely. thataise understand it is not confirmed. >> the coroner's office will not confirm anything in court papers today. they say they have not released their findings and will not do so because there is a police investigation going on, so they will not confirm this line that says they have called this homicide. what's important to remember, though, is that in the u.s. homicide includes both murder and manslaughter so that would include the potential charge. everything that we've learned today seems to go in the direction of a potential prosecution, but we can't second-guess the police or the authorities on this and we must wait to see what they decide to do. >

conrad murray is not a specialist in anesthesia. dr. lee is.n an anesthesiologist? >> i have been in anesthesia for 20 years. >> how many times have you administered propofol in somebody's home? >> never. >> have you ever heard of that? >> never. >> how many people have come to you and said i need propofol because i need to sleep better? >> never. there are better alternatives. >> can you think under which propofol would be acceptable as a sleep aid? >> i cannot say that. >> dr. lee's view is shared by most medical professionals with propofol's thin therapeutic window, the risks of developing a shallow breath or no breath or rapid drop in blood pressure are simply too great. a doctor would have to intervene quickly. he or she would need the right tools to do so. dr. lee says that before propofol can be safely administered, certain basic medical standards have to be met. at a minimum, he says, a patient receiving propofol intravenusly would have to be hooked up to an e.k.g. to measure heart rate. and to a pulseoximeter to measure oxygen in the b
