it is a great point, courtney.street justice is what we're talking about here and it is amazing to see the sympathy given to the individual that committed this heinous act. so i think you're point is a great point, if companies have to sort of walk that fine line of keeping their employees safe but there is also an opportunity to sort of also come out and make sure that they're getting ahead of the story and explain to people, here is what is actually going on that may be different from what you perceive us as the villain in the story and there is the opportunity to tell that narrative that could perhaps turn the tables jut a little bit. let me make one more point and that is the idea, we have to be very careful with social media, because in social media, what gets shares in social media are the negative things, the macabre things, the provocative sort of things so oftentimes when there is outrage, it is amplified because there is so much of disproportionate extreme reactions that happen in social media that don't

the costs are meaningful earnings. >> chris, this is courtney here. when it comes to banks, we do get questions from clients saying, how should i be concerned about rate pressure and rates are not coming down as much as we originally hoped, and is that something we should be concerned about with the banks, or is the fact that the yield curve is normalizing should not be a concern? what would your take on it be? >> i think, first off, in september, it has been huge for deposit and funding costs. you will see better margins in q4 and q1. the curve is turning positive the last three weeks, it's a big plus. it will improve confidence, it will bring more money back to the sector. i think overall, the fed slowing down is probably bullish because it allows banks to reset at a slower pace while the ost has come down much faster. that's what a large expansion is, really happening. >> chris, just a quick question. on the htn books, the long curve will stay a little bit elevated here. obviously, if banks are looking to merge, that will be meaningful, something t

let's bring in courtney garcia. courtney, good morning.g me, frank. >> what should we make of the big board after crossing that milestone? that is a sign of bullish in the market. >> it is just that. when you have such a huge surge in the markets all year here and you hit the thresholds, you will see a pull back here. i don't think it is anything to be concerned about. the markets are still well positioned. gdp is growing and revisions are going upwards. earnings are coming in very strong. i think the question is where you are putting your money right now. broadly speaking, the markets are really set up not only for a good end of the year, but for a good to 2025 as we move forward. >> you mentioned this, cpi came in for headline and core. what do you make of that? is that a sign of something to come? it came in as expected, but we saw yields move higher? >> this has happened since the day the fed started lowering interest rates. you see term rates rising. they don't believe the fed has inflation under control. you are seeing that with the

courtney, tell me first about what was going on at fox and what was the extent of the concern of thesers who spoke to nbc news about him, and what is the state of his nomination among republicans, senate republicans? >> so this was ten current and former fox news employees. some of whom worked directly with him on the show fox and friends, the popular saturday morning or weekend show that he's been a host of. and these people all gave us a very similar picture of what they saw during their years working there over the course of various times, from the time pete hegseth started working at fox news. they described cases where the show would start at 6:00 a.m. he would show up in some cases only minutes before the show was about to start. the staff, the producers would be concerned, was he going to show up at all. and at times he would come in and talking about how he was still hung over or in some cases still smelling of alcohol from the night before. some cases he would show up so late, they would rush him on the set, put his makeup on, talking through some of the topics as they were mo

courtney, you boca the roke the. what did you learn?n the heels of a number of different stories with allegations about character concerns regarding pete hegseth. so of course, we've heard about allegations that he was involved in a potential sexual assault. of course, he, there was a payment to the woman who made that claim. there were never charges filed. there's also been concerns about financial mismanagement. we heard about that in "the new yorker" article over the weekend from his time when he was working for a non-profit that advocated for veterans. then there have been a number of different cases and instances where former colleagues of him have talked about his excessive drinking. "the new yorker" talked about it at the veterans advocacy group but now we're learning from former employees that there was a lot of concern about his time while serving on fox and friends. these individuals told us of cases where he would show up only minutes before the show would begin at 6:00 a.m. on the weekends. at times, he would still be hungov

probably. >> what happens if courtney and jordan are connect? maybe the fed cuts less -- even less than people think now and rates remain sticky higher than people want them to be? is the market going to have a problem with that, even with a backdrop of deregulation and expected tax cuts and more robust economic growth? >> interestingly, where we haven't -- what you would expect is that we are in the camp that we end up with a rate higher than expected, 3.75% to 4%. we think there will be a pause after next week. if you think about the levers of distress and you think about areas of the market which have, frankly, been fairly resilient and less vulnerable than we thought with rising interest rates, you are seeing just a resetting of expectations for 2025 and 2026. we will have -- our view is we will continue to have stronger nominal growth. it's another above trend year for the u.s. economy. we do think to your point that that -- the headline growth is going to be offset some of the continued weakness. it could result in things like -- we are ve

courtney, you have ten, i believe, sources on this story.s is not just one person leaking something out to you. tell us more about what you found in your reporting. >> yeah, and i have to say we worked on this, our colleagues chloe mel lass and sara fitzpatrick and i worked on this for several weeks. we spoke with more people even than are reflect this had this story. these aren't people who are out to necessarily, you know, criticize fox news. consistently we were talking to current and former fox news employees who were concerned about pete hegseth's qualifications for such an enormous job, leading the department of defense. as you mentioned, willie, ten current and former colleagues from fox news who told us about this pattern of behavior over the course of years where pete hegseth would repeatedly show up sometimes moments before the 6:00 a.m. show would start on the weekend morning and he would talk sometimes about being hung over, about how he had barely slept or not slept at all because he had been out all night. he had been out party

joining us now is nbc's courtney kube.hink it's so important that the secretary of state recognize and talk about and shine a light on those 13 service members that lost their lives that day? >> reporter: and specifically speaking to the family of one of those, we believe it to be nicole g, one of the women killed in the abbey gate bombing in august of 2021. that was a powerful moment. it's not one that we frankly see very often on capitol hill. i was really struck by that as well. but so far this hearing has been hashing out old issues, without really gaining new ground. a couple of the things that we have heard, number one, the outgoing chairman, congressman mike mccaul from texas, he was very critical at the top of the hearing of secretary of state antony blinken saying that he had not appeared before the committee, specifically to discuss the withdrawal from afghanistan. blinken pushed back on that saying he has appeared more than a dozen times before congress, including taking a number of questions about afghanistan.

courtney, what's going on behind you there?u may not think of a home improvement retailer like home depot as a big beneficiary on cyber monday. home depot is the fifth largest online retailer in the country, today is most likely going to be one of the biggest day of the year. >> we have been really pleased with how it started. it is such a big time in our business for interior projects, for major appliances. it's the best time of the year to buy a major appliance. >> reporter: salesforce data does indeed show that appliances, dining and home furnishings is a category seeing the biggest growth on black friday, and adobe also does show that the appliances are among the higher ticket items that shoppers are buying earlier in the season. so between november 1st and december 1st, adobe, though, overall does forecast another record day for cyber monday here in the united states. estimating $13.2 billion will be spent. that's 6% more than last year, if this comes to fruition. peak expected to be between 8 and 10:00 p.m. it's different
