he will face the d.c. cityil committee this afternoon about these claims and he will reluctantly testify this afternoon. he had refused to testify before on the record until now. after he appeared before a judge last week, efforts to subpoena him, suleiman brown claims he was offered the $110,000 a year job in the department of health care finance if he would help the gray campaign. he says he has phone records to and from the gray campaign and live edges the gray campaign chairman lorraine green and another aide paid brown to attack incumbent candidate adrian fenty. insight into brown's character, a man who has had trouble holding a job in the past. he was an unemployed auditor before gray hired him. he was abruptly fired from the d.c. job for alleged incompetence and according to a background check he was charged with attempted murder in 1988 in cook county, illinois and was found not guilty. he was also charged with assault in new jersey. he denies he impersonated a police officer or that he was had a protec

areas that have a little bit of rental, when it gets down to about 55% as it is in new york, the city of d.cancisco, you get a little more flexibility. what happened in miami is they took all those vacant condos and they turned them into rentals. here's what miami beach did, which i think other cities can do. they went in and bought two or three of these vacant condos -- not high end, but nice ones -- and they turned them into affordable housing for people who work in the restaurant and hotel business. you know, we have 13.3 million vacant homes in this country. that's a lot of vacant homes and condos. we could begin through puzzle policy, but not national policy, cities and suburbs could help transfer them from bank ownership or foreclosure into rentals and make more affordable rentals available for people who need it. >> richard, you're talking to me from one of my favorite cities in the entire continent, in fact, i had started describing toronto as one of the biggest asce ascendant cities in north america. what's happening there? >> toronto is even more vibrant than d.c. houses sell in tw

this is what it feels like right now if you're outside in places like d.c., new york city, detroit, even here in atlanta. everybody in the upper 80s and in some cases the lower 90s, and we're not even at noon. they'll soar to over 100 degrees, meaning that's what it would feel like. here's the forecast for today and the next couple days. you'll notice there's not much in relief certainly across the southeast, there's a cold front, a couple of them that will flirt with the western great lakes, so places like chicago, maybe new york city we'll see some brief cooling, but everything south of the mason dixon, heat indices over 90 degrees as well. now for dangerous heat expected today and tomorrow, potentially the next day in places like d.c., detroit, philadelphia, and new york city. so take care of your neighbors, certainly the elderly ones, and those who may not be able to handle this heat. air quality is an issue, too. also ozone builds up in big cities like atlanta. so we're at a code orange today, not only for atlanta, but i think tomorrow over 80 cities will be in unhealthy categories.

d.c. government. two local scandals involving city leaders at the center of both, what else? money. on the left ward 5 councilman harry thomas accused of misspending the city's cash and on the right sulaimon brown finally testifying before the city council about allegations involving mayor vincent gray. >> we'll start with the ward 5 councilman harry thomas who could face criminal charges for all this. at the very least he's being sued by attorney general for $1 million. thomas is accused of spending money meant for youth baseball in the district on trips to vegas and california and on an audi quattro suv. here's the car. nathan has been investigating thomas for five months now and says he would be willing to accept a settlement from thomas but the councilman denies the charges and says he won't settle. tomorrow council chair kwame brown is scheduled to meet with fellow council members to talk about how to move forward on the situation and then, of course, there's sulaimon brown, finally testifying before the d.c. council and remember, it did take a judge's order to get him there to
