fox 35 dana jay live this morning with deputies will be back out at a home....trying to piece together how someone ended up buried in a missing man's backyard! those remains were found in the backyard of a home on pennsylvania street. that's just west of state road 44 and i-4 in paisley. deputies were called there-- after a neighbor reported he had not seen the homeowner...61- year-old dennis jones... for more than a month. the porch light of jones' house was on... but he was nowhere to be found, and his car was not in the driveway. deputies says a cadaver dog alerted backyard. the medical examiner could have autopsy results and an i-d of the remains later this morning. right now-- deputies are calling this a suspicious death. more than 10- thousand people are expected to march in tallahassee today. they are urging the "florida teachers union" to drop a lawsuit against florida's school voucher program. e program re- directs tax dollars to help low-income families afford private education -- if their kids are struggling in public schools. the florida's teachers union sued the state -- c

fox 35's dana jay has more on the planning. good morning, dana. >> reporter: good morning amy, good morning, john. we're at indian harbor beach. new year's day a family caught a coyote chasing down their cat on surveillance video. are a few days later, the city. leo krawft and his team hope to use trail cameras and drones to try to spot the coyotes in the park. they hope to learn about the routes that the coyotes are taking overnight and set traps accordingly. the drones might make it easier to spot where the animals are building dens. get a bird's eye view instead of trekking through the woods and trying to catch the coyotes a little quicker. >> we hope to get them out of here safely and relocated. if they stay here, the habitat is a little too small for them. the populations and other things and a lot of people moving around the park during the day. they don't want human interaction with the coyotes. >> reporter: coyotes have the past four years and more of a nuisance. fish and wildlife said that coyotes are in every county in

dana jay has the latest. >> reporter: that boy was just 15 years old, and his family tells us they're very familiar with this neighborhood. the mom, the sisters, they grew up here. that's why they're especially hopeful that someone will call the sheriff's office or that an an anonymous tip line on the crime line sign, with the seminole county sheriff's office says tamar harris was driving through the neighborhood about 3:30 yesterday afternoon when someone standing in the street near the intersection of pine and central shot a gun in his direction. harris' car kept on going and slammed into a light post at the end of the street. arrived, they found harris lying in the street next to the car. he died a short time later at the hospital. it was broad daylight, and harris' family says someone must have seen something. >> you know, we miss him. the family misses ". my sister is very distraught, very hurt. if someone could just come to a mother. i know he has a mother, the person who did it. if she knows anything, you know, just feel it in your heart to need to do. >> that appeal, of course

dana jay joins us live here in the studio with more on the decision. >> reporter: consider the death penalty here in florida on hold for the time being because the u.s. supreme court said the way we decide whether or not someone goes to death row is not constitutional because we leave it up to the judge instead of a jury. the u.s. supreme court today handed down their decision based on a case from the panhandle. in that case, the jury was divided on the death sentence because the judge imposed it anyway and the justice said a system that allows that is unconstitutional. the florida supreme court, lawmakers and the attorney general, have a lot of decisions to make in order to figure out what comes next. >> all of my attorneys are trying to deny the opinion and see if we need a legislative change, whether it will affect people who have been sentenced to death and pending death cases. >> i really like that part of the supreme court statement that yes, juries should be the ones, not individual government officials, that give out these sentences of death. that is a game-changer. >> report

dana jay has the latest. >> reporter: traffic is flowing near the st. john's river bridge. originally all lanes were blocked by mile marker 106. take a look at video we shot before they cleared the scene. the eastbound lanes. the westbound lanes at that point were open. according to the florida highway patrol around 10:00 p.m. a mustang rear ended a pickup truck in the eastbound lanes. the truck had three people in it. it smashed in the guardrail and ended up in the westbound lane. two men thrown from the truck and killed. a woman trapped and had to be airlifted and she was in critical condition. the man driving the mustang is expected to be okay. all lanes driving eastbound and westbound are now clear. >> amy: the volusia county school board will decide whether or not students will have to wear uniforms next year to school. luanne has more on the plan. >> reporter: good morning. after months of meetings and protest, the board is casting its final vote on the policy. tonight. it would include matching polo shirt, khaki pants and closed toe shoes. supporters argue it would c

dana jay is live with more on the decision. decision stems from the case of a man name timothy hurst who was convicted of murder panhandle. the judge imposed the sentence of the death penalty but the jury was divided. the reasoning behind the u.s. supreme court's ruling on florida's death penalty is easy to understand. >> our florida statute is unconstitutional because it leaves the decision making to the judge and the judge alone. >> reporter: but orange county public defender robert wesley says what comes next is much more difficult. >> it is like an announcement saying this is wrong, but doesn't tell you how to clean it. >> reporter: the justice left the next steps up to tallahassee. death penalty their job is to write a new constitutional statue and that will take time. >> it might in a special session later. >> reporter: they have to decide what to do with 390 people on death row right now. one sweeping option would be to give everyone of those people a life sentence instead. but the court has said they have no comment at this time on what they plan to do with that ruling. one t

dana jay was in court for the latest of the events. >> reporter: she told the judge today she wants to spend the rest of her life in prison. nmpghts say guduru shot and killed her daughter back in 2014. she also tried to kill herself. guduru's attorney originally planned an insanity defense, but she wanted to plead guilty. guduru's attorney, brian bieber told the judge in court he does not believe his client is rational, so the judge ordered if she does have the capacity to decide if she wants to spend the rest of her life behind bars. >>> a warning for volusia residents tonight. targeting the elderly. here's kelly joyce with the details. >> reporter: police are warning residents there's a scheme going on. calling an elderly person and said they need their bank information. in all three cases the victims have given up information and they've lost a lot of money. if you have any information who's doing this call smryna police. >>> they'll be repainting it, and one of the features is anti-graffiti get get to coating to the surface. it will save time and money for our crews in the future.

thousands of flights canceled, including some flights here in >> fox 35 dana jay is joining us live from oia. have you met anyone who has been stranded because their flights have been canceled? >> reporter: you know what, luanne, we have not. not so far. we met a pair of guys who are traveling wondering if they are getting to pittsburgh or not, but they seem to be leaving early enough in the day that that shouldn't be a problem. we're seeing lots and lots of ontime flights with the exception of a handful. incoming flights in raleigh, durham, in the path of the storm, and cancelations in and out of charlotte. those cancelations in and out of charlotte shouldn't come as a surprise because american airlines said that they'll be canceling all nights in and out. that's a hub for american i saw on twitter, united, 4:00 p.m. will start to suspend flights out of dulles, that's a hub in washington, d.c. all have issued waivers. you can rebook without a penalty, for all the major airlines. and flight tracker, about 2,000 nights already canceled for today. looking ahead to tomorrow, after the storm

and fox 35's dana jay joins us now live to explain. good evening, dana. >> yesterday the state board of education took a couple of votes on how students, schools, and on the new florida standards assessment or fsa. based on the responses of local school districts, the results of those votes weren't quite as bad as they could have been. the florida standards assessment exam that public school students took last year was meant to be tougher because it tests kids on tougher curriculum, aimed at better preparing them for jobs and college. there were some who believed the system used for scoring the test should make it really hard for kids to get a passing grade on the fsa. >> there were a few different thought processes out there. one was to raise the bar really, really high and make it very difficult for students to be proficient. >> the fear among public education officials, like superintendent griffin, was that the bar would be set unreasonably high and set up a huge number of kids to fail the fsa in the first year. so when the state boa
