to get back to the bay area, five small quakes, danville, what you read about this ? >> you have the main shock and aftershock, cluster in the main shock, he is starting to see the stronger earthquakes after the sequence, typically the strongest quake and then aftershocks after. that isn't happening. you can see the map, this is the strongest, right about here, this was a 3.6. a3 .6, 12:19 pm. the death as well, a shallow quake, over half a mile. 3 to 4 to 5 miles an hour, when you get a shallow quake energy closer to where you are standing and that's why you feel. 3.6 at 12:19 pm. stronger? in more recent quakes, 12:21 pm, 2.8, by comparison that was over four miles. you will notice a jolt with a 3.6 earlier this hour. in this area of the calaveras fault in an area known as diablo thrust, from what i've been reading it's an area that can transfer energy from the calaveras to the greenville faults and that is responsible for mount diablo's. all the seismic activity with that, you can see the cluster of quakes, the one to the north is the strongest of the sequence at 3

earthquake the largest yet was the 15th in the current swarm of earthquakes to hit the danville area in the last few days. the shaking was very localized but really shook things up for folks at the epicenter. >> i was in a little almost like farmhouse at the time and the whole thing just started shaking. it was pretty cool. >> reporter: i don't know if you noticed but you were standing on top of the fault. >> holy smokes. >> i was afraid. shaking. i sat down in the chair and the chair is moving. so i feel so afraid. >> it was sharp. a couple of booms. >> reporter: the usgs geophysicist says unlike larger individual earthquake events, swarms tend to be much smaller in magnitude with many minor quakes occurring over a period of days or weeks. >> there's no clear start or stop necessarily and there's no clear order to the magnitudes of the earthquakes so what we are seeing is very typical behavior for this region. so since 1970, this is the 7th swarm in the region along sort of the calaveras fault. >> reporter: this is a 3.5. as years go by we have better technology to how they occur an

all struck this morning outside of danville in the area around monte vista high school.pened at 1:30, the other three were within a one-minute span at 4:25. this is right near where two small quakes struck a half mile apart yesterday morning. our newsroom checked with usgs. in the past week there have been eight wakes over a 2.5 area in that danville area, six of those since yesterday. we did some checking overnight for you as well. the swarms are centered on an unusual fault and one not likely you've heard of before called the mount diablo thrust fault. it's deep into the earth's crust so it tends to give small earthquakes. the chance of this fault giving us a big one, 6.7 or higher is only three chances in 100. >>> back to our mike climate weather alert. if you love your bay area wine you want to listen up as those wine growers across the bay area are monitoring those grapes as those temperatures continue to plummet. danville is 30 degrees, long creek dirty five.there are some 30s out there as well. 36 -- that is chilly. 37 by the concord pavilion. we have not had rain for a long time. it has been 20 days, since january 25. no rain for us for 20 days. they are getting rain in southern california. that is good news. the serous note is grim. it was good lester, it is the opposite this year. it is so bad. this is the snow to water equivalent. 18% of normal in the northern sierra. 25% central, lake tahoe. 18% for the southern sierra. 3.3 inches of liquid. on the summer solstice, june last year, there was 4.8 inches of snow to water equivalent. today there is 4.4. we had more snow on the first day of summer than we do now. that is bad. but things are looking up. we will have cold coming in and windy conditions. no rain yet, but there will be some sierra snow. strong systems are coming in sunday and monday. tuesday it will favor the sierra -- the key will be getting some of the loaves to go over the water. seems to be coming. it is still a ways away

danville is at 31 degrees. dublin at 39. 34 and alamo. lakeport was 29, now 30s.louds are coming in and that will bring the temperature up. a lot of 30s from the airport, 35 at stanford. temperatures are cool. there is a change on the way. it is a fight between offshore breezes and onshore. it is not strong. is easterly. the cloud cover there, it it is a weak system. it will take the cloud cover and san jose and push it out of the area. there is some rain towards the south. they are getting rain in santa barbara and la. not a lot, and the system will give us partly cloudy skies. it will reinforce the cool pattern. temperatures are near average, which is 59 to 63. today will be one of those days. a mix of sun and clouds. tomorrow it will clear out. it will be breezy and warmer on friday and saturday. i expect a change on sunday through tuesday. much colder.>> i wonder if that will send the moths away. i saw something on twitter. there was a swarm of mops -- >> i want to mention that. they are brown moths and their early. someone will know out there. >> let us know.
