we're here in downtown danville.lle, of course, ranked often the safest city in california year after year. so why is that? that is the question, right? well i was doing a history tour with the mayor of danville, just walking around downtown area. we happen to run into the police chief of danville, alan shields. he was right here at the starbucks behind me, sitting down, checking some email on an ipad. and i asked him about that. why is the city considered so safe so many years in a row? take a look. so that's why when we're here, we can see sometimes we'll see little kids picking up trash, put in the trash can. that civic mentality, it just permeates and translates throughout the community. and so really, that makes my job very easy. so the bottom line here is he says all the residents of danville are committed to one vision kids and adults alike. and because of that committed vision, to keep the community safe, it's making his job and the job of his officers that much more easier because everyone here is committed

this is in danville, outside a starbucks near the intersection of camino tassajara. alyssa goard is there. what happened overnight? >> reporter: well, terry, at this location here in front of this starbucks, we talked to a couple witnesses who said they saw two cars collide and a fiery crash here, right in front of the starbucks. you can see the imprint on the ground where it appears the car ran up and through rose bushes, clipping the top rock outside of the starbucks here out here in danville. now, what witnesses tell us that they saw the cars coming to rest here in a big fire. the county sheriff's office also said this afternoon that danville police were trying to carry out a traffic stop while this is going on at around 1:00 in the morning. about five miles from here. but they say that the driver. that didn't stop in that traffic chase and the police wound up chasing the car. eventually coming to this spot over here, around five miles away. they say that car eventually ran a red light here and collided with another car and caught fire. the sheriff's office tells

last night was the graduation ceremony for san ramon valley high school in danville.nd people around here say with celebrations going on, the safety of teenagers on the road is top of mind. i feel like san ramon. danville you don't see too many things, but when you see something, it's kind of kind of weird. it's kind of big. reporting in james torres. ktvu fox two news. two people are in the hospital tonight after the car they were in careened off highway one in san mateo county and hit a house. it happened at about nine this morning on highway one and medio avenue in el granada. two cars were involved in the crash . one crashed through a fence, hit the house and came to rest in the yard. the occupants of that car were taken to the hospital, one of them with major injuries. no one else was hurt. the cause of that crash is under investigation. bart service is getting back to normal tonight after a power issue caused system wide delays. as bart said, it was experiencing major delays due to an issue with power on the san francisco line just before 1 p.m. today. the green
