darla. >>reporter: good morning to you again, michelle, ken. police are looking for a 1980s model white cadillac. they say that cadillac is going to have major front end damage from last night's hit and run. you can see it in this surveillance video obtained by eyewitness news. first you can see a 47-year-old woman trying to cross the street. she is standing on the double yellow line in the middle of the street and is crossed by cars going in both directions. that is when she's mowed over by that white cadillac. police say the driver just kept going north on williams bridge road and did not stop. this happened around 10:30 last night across from pelham parkway houses in the alerton section of the bronx. now, that 47-year-old woman did survive but she is listed in critical condition at jacoby medical center this morning. meanwhile, police say if you know anything about this accident, please call crime stoppers and 800-577-tips. roaring live in the alerton section of the bronx, darla miles, ch

eyewitness news reporter da darla miles live -- reporter darla miles live in newark with darla. >>reporter: ken, we are at two of the schools that tested positive for these elevated american history high school and the samuel berlaunder school with students at the samuel berlaunder school to be tested first. that is because the city has decided it is important to test the younger students first. that's about 2,000 toddlers from the early childhood learning centers on that list of 30 newark schools that tested positive for elevated levels of lead. now, the state will be conducting this testing. that's the state department of health and the state department of environmental protection, they're going to be leading the way. but at this point it is unclear exactly how long these schools have had elevated levels of lead. >> we don't want to send our children bottled water for the next 20 years and we don't want filters on our water sites. >>reporter: now, at this point while the school district has determined which students will be tested first, that timetable has not been set. report

darla miles is live. >>reporter: good morning, ken, frankly there is no surprise there was a hit-and-run on this street. we've seen about 30 cars speed down this street coming down here so fast that they even blew through the crime scene tape and the nypd had to turn them around as they got to the end of the crime scene. it looks like at the time of this accident, no one called 911 because this is an industrial area, a row of businesses and open field. when the body was discovered or the man was discovered it was later determined he had been hit by a car. again, this is on it 1st street and 49th avenue here on long island city. this man was found ar 8:00 last night and it was only after he was taken to columbia presbyterian medical center that doctors determined his injuries were consistent with a hit-and-run. right now, investigators are trying to determine exactly what time this may have happened and to get a vehicle description. again, this is on 21st street and 49th avenue here on long island city. th

eyewitness news reporter darla miles has new information now. she's in bushwick. darla. >>reporter: lori, michelle, they are hitting hot spots, and there has been a partial collapse this morning. i want to show you where the fdny just put their ladder back up within the last hour to look at that collapse and to hit those hot spots. within the last hour about 20 minutes ago you saw them putting water on it. now that the sun has come out, at the damage. the challenge is where that partial collapse has taken place, it's still hot underneath all of that debris, and so they have to continuously try to turn that debris to keep those hot spots from flaring back up. and you can see they're taking a good look now, again, at all this devastation and destruction. look at the fire, though. the fire itself was massive. it was a huge inferno. five buildings were destroyed, including a martial arts studio and a church. that church is at 1427 dekalb avenue, and that is where it is believed this fire started in that building. this was a six-alarm fire. it started around 10:00 here in bus

darla is live in paterson. good morning. that 7-year-old boy spent the night here at saint joseph's medical center, he was home with his grandmother but he was the one who called 911 after he got shot. this all started after a dispute on rosa parks boulevard outside of a liqueur store that's according to police. when the argument led to gunfire, the 7-year-old went to the window to see what was going on that's when the child was struck in the shoulder. all of this happening just literally across the intersection from where 12-year- old genesis was shot outside of her home back in 2014. >> my nephew got shot in the shoulder. he is fine. >> about that time, i heard like four or five shooting so i came back my mom was right here, didn't let me pass, then brought me inside and told me what happened they thought it was me. >> at this point there is no police are looking for who shot, who fired those gunshots last night but obviously they have not identified the suspects at this point. and the 7-year-old boy is expected to be rele

eyewitness news rep darla miles. >>reporter: nat car pulled up to the intersection behind me when the pipe bomb went off. eye learned overnight that -- eyewitness learned overnight attached but only one went off. there were two people in the car at the time. a 24-year-old man driving and 28-year-old woman in the passenger seat. police say that was a rental car so they're trying to determine exactly when the with the explosive device which was two aerosol cans and a pipe bomb. when they got to the intersection here, the device exploded causing two flat tires and the air bags to deploy. >> it was a really loud, like a thump. it wasn't like, maybe like a gunshot but not, just sort of d. >> the two people inside the car at the time were not hurt even though the air bags deployed. police called in land security, the fbi joint terror task force and terrorism was quickly ruled out. >>> it is 4:33 and today five teens accused of raping a woman in a brooklyn park will have the charges formally dismissed they were arrested sho

. >>> now to a developing story a wind driven fire ripped through two homes in queens, darla miles is live there in east elmhurst. darla. >>> well michelle one person who lives across the street started says he heard some type of explosion. i want to show you where the home is where the fire started and spoke with one person who lives inside of that home, he told me it was the banging outside that woke him up and got him out safely. as you can see the fire has been put out and everyone who lives inside of these two homes are all okay even their cat. but as you mentioned michelle the fire chief believes wind was definitely a factor in this fire that went from two alarms to three alarms more than 155 firefighters responded it started after 2:00 this morning on 91st street here in east elmhurst queens. the fire started in a home which is a rental property, there are two apartments and 7 people live inside of that home. it spread next door to this home where the husband and wife team who manages that rental property live. the flames started to approach on the homes behind these two homes.

. >> darla miles is in tarrytown with the details. >> the u.s. coast guard is they were able to raise that tugboat and maintain the structural integrity of the vessel. it was intact. right now we're told they are still working to free the remains of the third crew member, harry hernandez, from the wreckage. just about 7:00 this morning, about a dozen divers jumped in to the icy waters of the hudson river near the tappan zee bridge in tarrytown. first they attached straps from the crane to the wreckage and slowly guided the wreckage to the surface. in just under an hour, the tugboat was above water. one important thing they had to do once it was above water, they had to make sure there was not a fuel leak. then investigators and recovery teams went onboard. all of this was very agonizing for the family of harry hernandez. they stood at the pier and watched, eager to claim the body of their loved one. >> many of his cousins were here traumatic experience for them over the course of many days. the family has been trying to deal with this now for qui

the tug boat crashed near the tappan zee bridge almost two weeks ago and eyewitness news reporter darla miles live now in tarrytown from the rom asian -- where the operation is about to get underway. >> reporter: that's right lori. things are beginning to move here this morning. i want to show you a live look of some of the police activity here on the hudson river. this is going to be about a four hour operation beginning at 7:00 this morning. the first hour is going to be raising that tug boat from the hudson river. that should take about an hour actually to get it out of the water. and then it is expected to take about three hours to secure that tug boat onto a barge. recover the body of the third crew member and then begin to haul it away. this tug boat sank as you mentioned lori, nearly two weeks ago when it crashed into a barge here near the tappan zee bridge. the hudson river. all three crew members on board were killed. divers were able to recover the bodies of 63-year-old paul amon but divers could not get to 56- year-old harry hernandez rather in that the wreckage is about 40 f

. >> let's get the latest from darla miles who's in the newsroom right now. >>reporter: well, ken, it's not just one bomb, but a bombing campaign that has rocked belgium. the country is now at its highest terror level. two bombs at the brussels airport has killed 13 people and seriously injured 35, perhaps more. now, the explosions reportedly took place near the delta and american airlines counters in the main departure terminal. the city's system is shut down after an explosion in one metro station near the headquarters of the european union. news reports in brussels have other metro stations but that has not been confirmed at this time. all of this comes just days after the arrest in brussels of a prime suspect in the paris attacks and the naming of a new suspect. one person who was waiting at the check-in says he was rocked by the airport bombs. >> it was first a small explosion, maybe something like that and a few seconds later a very big explosion, and the registration -- there was a lot of smoke and completely destroyed, sprinklers spraying and so on. >
