it happened this afternoon in darlington county. the victim is michael gaines, senior. officials say he was walking on gilchrist road fell. we heard from one man who tried to step in to help. "the guy, we was laying down and the tree was on top of him and he was hurt, he was hurt, i looked up and the top was on top of him. a rotten tree fell and hit him." the darlingotn county coroner says gaines had stopped along the road near his home to remove storm debris from the roadway when that tree fell on him. the strong winds brought down trees and knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses. roads in downtown columbia were blocked for a while when power lines fell and traffic lights went dark. chad mills is at laurel and marion streets . at this point, the intersection of laurel and marion streets is still closed. columbia fire department is still on-scene. sce&g is out here too. drivers should avoid this area. a tree has fallen taking out several power lines

us at the moment but we are seeing it come closer to home, most of the rain along i-95 towards darlington, florence, down towards lake marion, crossing over the bridge. probably seeing rain but we are looking at mostly dry for us, we will get clipped by a few rain showers early this morning, watching fog, visibility down to a quarter mile in camden, five miles for us downtown, not as see the patchy fog settle in and we saw good solid rain yesterday, there's a lot of moisture left over from the rain from your monday afternoon and monday evening. 24-hour rain fall we are about 1.77, pretty solid total, none yesterday. we are likely to add to that today, not as much today in the rain gauge, maybe a quarter or half inch. upstate they are looking at a couple inches there. cooler to the west as well. upper 40s, we are in the mid to upper 50s, wind out of the east and northeast and that should inject a lot of moisture into the system. we had a lot of rain yesterday and we will add to it from the flow of the system, winds from the east, coming from the atlantic ocean, that will put more moisture
