dave. yes, we are at glen copark this morning because that parking lot was just one of the crime scenes in this. this is where police believe the killing may have happened but this is not where the body was found. this story took several twists and turns and a couple of confessions before he was caught and the body was discovered. the story began at 1:20 yesterday when police say he called his wife and confessed to killing his girlfriend. his wife called 911. police went to check the home but find no sign of her. at some point they got a call of a truck in this parking lot. it was empty but covered with what police say is bold. that obviously intensified the search. at 5:45 the story took another turn when a co-worker called police and told them he had driven to his home and confessed to him the killing of his girlfriend. so the co-workers called police. police got there and then found the body of a woman who it appears had been beaten to dit on the floorboard of the front passenger seat of

good morning. >> reporter: good morning, dave. yes, we have moved to clairmont and vermont and this is one area of this naibtd that is not being demolished right now. you can actually tell the progress they are making by these signs they have put in front of these homesites. they have a basic check list toted tell them where things stand as far as clearing and cleaning this site. as you can see this one has quite a bit of debris on it and they have jet to go town the six step process. they are going by piece by piece through this neighborhood. only three at a time but they are hoping to clear out all of this in just a few weeks. now there are a couple of things that are happening today that we are watching. first things are really expecting to start picking up pace wise. yesterday the county said it was really going to go slowly, take its time because it was the first day of demolition, but they do want to get this cleared by the first of october, the start of the rainy season. crews are well aware of the emotion tied to this type

i'm dave clark. >>> claudine wong is in the shopping center where two of the victims worked in that killing spree. >> reporter: in the last couple of minutes someone dropped off some flowers for -- flowers for cindy tran. on the door, there is a sign up that says the salon will be closed for the week. coworkers are having a difficult time through all of this. they've seen this all unfold. we're learning some talked to her in the moments of before she was killed. the salon owner called her the night she was killed because police had been by asking her about the killing of ricardo sales. he was killed in tran's home. he and his son rented rooms there. now according to "the times" the owner called her because he didn't want her to come in until that issue was settled. but when she picked up her cell phone, he was so upset, he couldn't understand her. he handed the phone to a coworker. she was yelling and then heard sirens. and then there was silence. a short time later, jesse borhi was killed by police.

thank you, dave. and good morning to you at home.curity scare. most of the airport was evacuated and a traveler was detained when screeners found a metal canister in his luggage. let's get more from shari, wafr tv. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. that man is being detained and questioned by local and also federal officials. cbs news has confirmed just a short while ago that the man in question is 70 years old and is a scientist. apparently he had a canister in his luggage that greatly resembled a pipe bomb. federal and local law enforcement are interviewing the man who is being detained at this point. however, no charges have been filed and the man has not been arrested. the canister, which caused the suspicion, has been testing. what we are learning so far, there is no trace of explosives. that is very good news. an fbi special agent at the airport also tells me the man is a u.s. citizen and is cooperating with authorities. again, no charges have been brought at this time. this all started about 9:30 thursday evening when t

good morning. >> reporter: good morning, dave.ederick sales works at doctors hospital in san pablo. i was just inside the hospital talking to a nursing supervisor. she told me the hospital is cooperating fully with the authorities to try to find frederick sales. i've also learned he worked here for just about five months as a nursing assistant. according to a published report two people that worked with sales said he was very friendly and outgoing, very positive attitude. one person said you always see his teeth. but police say because of his association with efren valdemoro, sales may never be seen alive again. >> we always like to be optimistic in this particular case, but being an acquaintance of mr. efren valdemoro does not bode well for having a long life. >> reporter: reported 35-year- old sales missing on saturday. his 73-year-old father was also reported missing but found later that day bludgeoned to death at a room he rented from 46-year-old cindy tran. sales' lived in this home with tran and at least one other person. tr

dave. yes, this is right before sir frances drake boulevard. the chp right now continuing to leave one lane of southbound 101 shut down so firefighters can do their work out here. this is a grass fire they were dealing with. it started sometime after 4:00 this morning. we can take a look over here. you can see the firefighters making their way down the hill a little bit. 4:00 or somewhere there after this morning people driving by started to see the flames along this hillside and called it in. the first firefighter on scene told me you could certainly see it against the night sky and took on a tree and when that went up that is when really people started making a lot of phone calls and saying hey there is something pretty serious going on here. when they got here they were able to put it out quickly. they saw the power pole burned so they are trying to figure out if that had something to do with how it started. they are telling me the closest home to all this is about 100 feet away from where they actually stopped this fire so no homes are thre

good morning, craig. >> reporter: good morning, dave. even the police are saying this is a very alarming incident. not only was a 6-year-old girl shot, the family's telling me this isn't the first time it's happened. police say they got a call around 2:15 to come to the 1600 block of seminary and oakland. when they arrived that found this. a house shot up, multiple bullet holes in the side. came in the home from multiple areas and one lodging in the ceiling. four family members asleep at the time. the victim's 17-year-old sister was the first to discover the horrible circumstance. >> i heard my mom screaming and i went to her room and i seen my little sister. >> reporter: family members say the bullet went through the little 6-year-old girl's arm and chest. she was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive. but even police seem shocked by what happened. >> it's very alarming considering that this family is just inside asleep. again, it definitely appears to be a targeted incident. and it's extremely unfortunate that a 6-

good morning. >> reporter: good morning, dave. yes, we do have a bit of a mystery on our happeneds this morning. i did talk to concord police this morning and they are still searching for this one-year-old woman who called 911 for help yesterday. now let's show you a picture of 21-year-old amanda sloane. she is 48 100 pounds and is in a wheelchair paralyzed from the waist down. she called 911 yesterday from the area we are. she told chp she had fallen out of her wheelchair and was having chest pains, they transferred that to the fire department and they went in search for her but it came up empty. they started a search. they set up a command post and 30 volunteers searched the area. but they have not seen her. it is still unclear if maybe she was able to call someone else for help or somehow was able to get somewhere and get help but certainly at this point police are worried about her and want to make sure she is okay. they are hoping anyone who might have seen her give them a call. we are going to stay on top of this and will ke
