. >> david lee miller is in boston. david what are you seeing. >> reporter: i'm seeing a 11 inches of snow. that is the the official figure given just moments ago but there are drifts higher then that. we had sunrise here, a few moments ago and getting our first glimpse. take a look at the the street here. get good idea of the visibility or lack of visibility. not a great deal to see except mound and mound of snow. the as we pan over to boylston street, you will see, that a caravan of plows and salt, heavy equipment, that down the street for the the past self hours. as fast a as they are clearing the road it continues to snow. three to 4 inches an hour. you still cannot see the blacktop. look at the shoulder. you can see the crew for yourself. a small hundred tane of snow that has been cleared from this intersection. lastly the snow itself is a problem but a along the coastal communities there is a serious issue with flooding. they are experiencing very mild to moderate flooding. they say there could be some serious beac

david lee miller in the heart of boston. thank you very much. so the storm changed a lot.t now? maria is tracking it. they didn't get it right for new york city. but up in new england it's bad. >> yeah. i'll tell you what, 50 miles made all the difference. just 50 miles to our east in islip, new york. they reported more than 18 inches of snow. it's still coming down at a rate of more than two inches per hour. that's how tough these forecasts are with nor easters. that's what we saw yesterday. we saw the storm shift a little to the east. that made all the difference across places like new york city and surrounding areas across new jersey, southwestern connecticut, and southern parts of new york state. those blizzard warnings have been lifted. but across central and eastern long island, stretching to parts of down east maine, you have those blizzard warnings in effect and across northern new england, those blizzard warnings do stick around through at least tomorrow morning. you are looking at a prolonged period of time here with very significant snowfall coming down. as much

david lee miller is live in boston. david lee how are things overnight. what's expected for today? >> reporter: the snow is falling faster than the snow plows can remove it. you can take a look and see for yourself what's going on here. there are plows going down this street every few minutes but still there are mounds and mounds of snow that have to be removed. you can barely see the black top despite the fact they have been plowing this area for the past several hours. we were told nearly a foot of snow is blanketing the city of boston. let me do my unscientific test here. we can determine how much snow there is. this lamppost is going to be drifting snow, but this is not an area that's been plowed. that's 14 inches of snow right here and it's continuing to fall at a good clip of 2-4 inches an hour. there has been coastal flooding, coastal areas of experience, mild to moderate flooding, particularly hard hit nantucket. we are told there has been flooding there and also a serious power outage affecting the entire island of nantucket. the electricity is off. in fact there are more

massachusetts, maine and other northeastern states so let's get the very latest right now from david lee miller. we saw you driving on the way this morning on fox and friends first. you managed to get there. you were in marshfield massachusetts, correct? >> that is correct. and the locals will tell you, heather, marshfield is famous for its lobsters. now it's famous for something else. take a look. it's famous for having lobster traps in the middle of the town. about a dozen of these traps were marched inland by the massive blizzard from which the community is still recovering. there was serious damage to about a dozen homes that are here along the oceanfront. we have some video that explains why the damage is so severe a seawall was not only breached but the force of the water actually broke chunks of the concrete and you can see this not just on the videotape but you can see the force of the water and what it caused on some of the still shots that are tight shots of the seawall or what's left of it. damage very, very serious. it makes this community much more vulnerable to further damage -- i

david lee miller in marsh field, 30 miles south of boston. good morning to you, david lee. >> reporter: good morning martha. we're in marsh field this is ocean street. during the storm ocean street met the ocean. a number of homes you see behind me were very seriously damaged. at least one was destroyed. a key part of the problem a seawall here was destroyed as well as breached in many parts during the height of this storm. you can see the damage. in particular when you take a look at a still photo close up of the wall. can see the massive damage the strength of this some, literally destroying chunks, as much as 30 to 40 feet of this seawall. and to give you some idea how much water there was let's come back live here in marshfield. behind me you see the row of homes, the ocean right behind them. the water poured into the street crossing ocean street actually hitting the windows of those buildings on the other side of the street. and as we panned back, over my shoulder martha you can take a look at one of the most extensively damaged homes. th
