david: that is the question. the question is when is this over. is that more about the unemployment or will the checks start to pick up things like retail sales? michael: it will probably not pick them up quickly, because a lot of categories in retail sales are not things that will bond as fast. retail sales are calculated on a dollar value. gasoline prices are down. they are down. that will not go anywhere. how much shopping will people do? how many restaurants will they visit? it will take a while for spending to come back. it will probably be sometime in june or july before you see things bottoming out. numbers will be bad for a while. we have to get used to that. we look to china to give us guidance. we had numbers out of china that are not encouraging, which indicated industrial production is coming up nicely. on the demand-side, retail sales were not up fast. michael: one of the first things the chinese did was put factory workers back on the assembly lines and started building things again which meant industrial production rose 3.9% on the month, which is good news, but they are building things no one is buying, retail sales were down 3.3%, and
