i'm david novarro. >> i'm shirleen allicot. we begin this half hour with new details about the suffolk county police chief arrested by fbi. >> jamesburg is facing federal assault charges, long island reporter kristin thorne live outside the federal courthouse in central islip with more on this story. >> reporter: dave and shirleen, this is the federal indictment just unsealed against former suffolk county police chief james burke. it sames burke assaulted a suspect in his custody who was handcuffed at the time. it also says burke pressured his officers to lie to authorities who were assault. the fbi arrested 51-year-old james burke at had his mother's home this morning and brought mehlville for processing. burke had been with the suffolk county police department for he resigned in october he said to be with his family and for personal reasons. prosecutors say in 2012 burke assaulted 28-year-old christopher lobe. lobe had stolen burke's gun belt and other items from burke's department issued vehicle which was parked in his drive

david novarro with the details. >> reporter: the u.s. marshals and fbi on the look out for ethan couch and his mother and not ruling anything out. sources tell abc news by now it's assumed ethan may try to change his appearance. >> some folks are cooperating. we keep that in the back of our mind that they may not be completely truthful. it is believed he is on the run possiblely traveling with his mother in a ford pickup truck. >> the investigation shows that other families members or associates, friends, anyone offering support to ethan, they will likely be charged as well. >> reporter: couch was 16 when he filled cor people driving drunk in 2013. he was sentenced to only defense, a condition attorneys say caused by his wealthy up bringing preventing him from knowing right from wrong. it's not officially recognized as a diagnosis. couch vanished earlier this month after skipping his probation hearing and this video showing couch at a party near a beer pong table was posted on twitter. >> i think it was the trigger that seen him running

. >> and i'm lori stokes in for david novarro, and we are learning more this half hour about an off-duty nypd officer who shot and killed over a craigslist deal. was meeting two men in springfield gardens to when one of the men pulled out a gun and that's when the officer killed >> kemberly richardson is live in springfield gardens with that story. >> reporter: and just moments ago eyewitness news obtained exclusive video that shows the tense minutes out here as that off-duty nypd officer is holding his gun pointed at a suspect on the ground. we'll get to that in a second. first i want to give you an idea of what's happening out here. the crime scene is in a large l shape. it starts here on 145th avenue and spills over. investigators are focused on that gray suv believed to be the off-duty nypd officer's car. now to that video. it's dark but you can make out the silhouette of a man there in the distance. that is the nypd officer with his gun drawn. the suspect at this point is we now know he is 30-year-old devon holder. this ordeal unfolded around that officer was under the impression he

. >> and i'm lauren glassberg in for david novarro. weaver getting new details about a string of jewelry store thefts in manhattan. >> police releasing new surveillance videos of criminals in action. the latest robbery on wednesday. eyewitness news reporter rob nelson is live in midtown with details. >> good afternoon, these guys have hit three stores just in the last four months including most recently as you said right here behind me at madison jewelers each time making a pretty easy get away. >> police are now calling this a robbery spree targeting midtown jewelry stores with three incidents dating back to september. the most recent robbery took p.m. at madison jewelers on broadway, which you can see on surveillance video. one of the men uses a small gun to demand jewels and watches and fled with the items. and then back on october 9th. police say the same two men targeted kenjo jewelry store on west 57th street where one suspect brandishes a handgun and demands merchandise from employees. they fled with an unknown number of watches
