in the city of denver and the state of massachusetts, face mask orders are into place and here in texas, nail salons, hair salons, barber shops can reopen on friday. the governor of texas had originally said that those types of businesses would reopen mid-may. after five days of the reopening of the economy here, the governor has sped up the opening of those types of businesses. he says he has a great plan in place that has been signed off on by dr. birx of the white house coronavirus task force. if you look at the cdc guidelines, one of the bench marks is a prolonged decrease in the number of cases. if you look at the graphics in texas in particular over the last seven days, you can see new coronavirus cases across the state are hovering near 1,000 or well over 1,000 new cases per day. the governor here says he is looking at other data to guide his reopening of the economy here, like the infection rate and whether or not there are teams in place to go out and combat the flare-ups wherever they occur in the state. as you might imagine, john,

that's the scene in denver at the moment where protesters are blocking an intersection.imilar protests in the aftermath of the death of george floyd. his neck was under the knee of a minneapolis police officer as he said i can't breathe. he was pinned to the ground and had no pulse. there are no charges or arrests for the officers involved. joining me is president and director of counsel of the naacp legal defense fund. you have worked on cases like this before you and i have talked through the years. what do you think needs to happen in the short term in minneapolis? >> well, i think, chris, the key here is that we've been around this circle before and the community is now educated about what should happen and the first thing that needs to happen is we need transparency. we need all of the information. today we heard the state's attorney from hennepin county say he's not charging the officers because there is some other information or video that suggests perhaps there should not be criminal charges and i was very disappointed with this baiting of the public. if there is

denver, colorado, a big spike in the middle. when it comes to denver, colorado, your prediction, they're a little flat. and franklin county, ohio, i'd call this a roller coaster not what a statistician would call it but a trajectory that starts to bring this down. explain, when you see the projection, flat at the end or down, what's behind that you believe it is policies that say we can reopen, but cautiously? >> yeah, we can observe directly what individuals are doing in these counties, but, you know, these are densely crowded areas as well, too. particularly, denver. it's interesting, you got columbus, ohio, as well. and what we see, you know, even though the counties for some of the reopening that they're doing, they certainly have some favorable temperature trends that are helping them. but our models are really flexible to what's actually happening in those counties. and the degree to which we can't observe whether people are wearing masks, it's being revealed in our data and predictions that our forecasts demonstrate less
