but as you say, there are stark similarities to the attack that took place on the dnc server. those emails released that were stoat cause political disruption. and there is concern that the same pattern is being repeated now. we've reached out, of course, both to burisma. burisma haven't answered their phones. we've reached out to the russians. they've not given us a response to these allegations either. but in the past, of course, as we well know on this show, every time you put these allegations to the russians, they say it's laughable. they deny any knowledge of any kind of hacking and say it's anti-russian kind of sentiment. and my expectation is that they're going to say exactly the same when they respond this time. >> u.s. intelligence knows definitively those same russian groups are the same ones that hacked the dnc and john podesta in 2016. they don't have a good track record for credibility. >> they are emboldened when people as high as the president say, maybe it's ukraine. mat matthew, thank you. >>> progressives clash hours before they are face to face on the debat

hackers, some of the same units that were involved in the 2016 attack on the clinton campaign and the dnc, when the impeachment scandal heated up in november, they apparently attacked burisma, this company that the president was demanding investigations of because he thought he could use it against vice president joe biden in the 2020 campaign. russian hackers have apparently been hacking into burisma and getting into their servers and rummaging around. the intelligence chairman in the house, chairman schiff just told me that this is news to him, that he did not learn this in his role as the intelligence committee chairman. he is learning this in the "new york times." i know as senate minority leader, you also tend to have access to sensitive material. i have to ask if this is news to you as well tonight from "the times"? >> it is. >> or if you had any inkling of this. >> no, it is news. and it shows the great need for election security. again, to have the russians interfere on the side of the same person that intelligence agencies showed they interfered in the 2016 elections for presiden

found the president seems to be echoing russian disinformation when he says ukraine meddled and the dnc hacked not by russia but ukraine, that the server, the dnc server was in ukraine and being pro tefrgtd by forces there. this is something we found that was actually floated by the russians as early as 2015, this idea that the clinton's campaign was tied to ukraine, and somehow that relationship was going to evolve into a potential symbiotic relationship come 2016. they threw everything they could against the wall and settled on this idea she was receiving help from oligarchs there in terms of her election campaign. the kremlin floated this, saying because this information against paul manafort was released, forcing him to resign from the campaign, that was evidence of some kind of ukrainian operation to hurt trump's campaign. but of course there's no evidence that there was any kind of topdown interference campaign like the russians waged. so this is something that former nsc if ieni hill said, if we don't point the finger at the reel culprits here, they will do it again. >> you've do
