we are looking live at downtown oakland where protests, demonstrators planned demonstrations on both sides of the bay, in san francisco and oakland. you can see it looks like police cars to the right there. some people out on the streets gathering in anticipation of this grand jury decision. in the shooting death of michael brown that occurred three months ago. at issue whether the officer darren wilson will face charges in the shooting death of 18- year-old michael brown. >> from oakland, to san francisco. there are also questions about what may happen in san francisco once the grand jury's decision is released. ktvu's david stevenson is in the city tonight. what is the feeling there? >> reporter: there are a dozens organizers and 10 or so people who stopped by. they are counting down a the grand jury announcement and making sure the neighborhood is aware of what is ahead tonight. >> reporter: making their way home tonight that b.a.r.t. station. organizers say it was important to turn out even though some said they do not expect an indictment in the case. >> i would -- if i would bet

at one point protestors from the march in downtown oakland made their way on to 580. the illegal fireworks were probably the least disruptive thing on the freeway last night. the protestors simply got in the way. at first bringing traffic to a standstill on the westbound side. and then they claimed the center divider and caused problems for eastbound traffic. there's no word on how many people were arrested for walking on the freeway. this all happened beginning about 8 p.m. the affected area was between park boulevard and lakeshore avenue about a mile or so there. later protestors started a fire on the grand avenue off-ramp from interstate 580. the protestors ended up on the ramp after the chp pushed them off the freeway. we have a couple of images from twitter users who were in the thick of it. julia carey wong shot these two photos of protestors climbing on the eastbound side of 580. someone named nate posted "smells like another garbage fire still" on 580 off-ramp in oakland. and another tweet says, nothing but cheers from people stuck in the traffic jam on 580. g

you can bet there are a lot of unhappy people here in downtown oakland tonight. as you mentioned, a couple hundred demonstrators have gathered here. they're holding up signs that say "arrest darren wilson" and "black lives matter." once the decision was made somebody got up on a bull horn and announced it to the crowd. the crowd then started marching. they're on the march as we speak. we believe they're marching toward the oakland police department chanting "no justice, no peace." now so far though the crowd is growing, things have remained peaceful. i just got a text from the oakland police spokesperson who says everything is peaceful as of right now. again, the crowd is on the move chanting certainly not happy, but keeping peaceful. the city of oakland has also opened four what they call healing centers across the city. those are places for people to go and express their emotions, get help dealing with their feelings and express themselves. local businesses have boarded up their businesses, afraid of what this crowd may do tonight. there is one business that to

another started inside a dumpster that protestors rolled along with them as they marched through downtown oakland. people were seen vandalizing businesses again. several protestors kicked in windows at a cvs store in oakland and the tribune building was vandalized as protestors smashed windows while they passed by the building. there was much more advisable police presence from the streets last night as officers tried to keep crowds under control. oakland police again called in additional help from law enforcement agencies. they focused on keeping protestors off the freeways. this is video from tuesday night at one point protestors shut down both corrections of interstate 580 causing major problems for drivers. they had to form a task force designed to help alleviate the problem in the future. >> soon as a pedestrian gets on the freeway we have the obvious risk of them being struck by a vehicle. >> is there any way to prevent people from getting on the freeway when you know that they are getting on the freeway is a possibility. is there any way to stop it from happening to begin with? >> it's a d
