let's go to the east bay. one person apparently dead now in oakland after police say a sergeant on his way to work was confronted by an armed person, says something that we first covered live here on the kron. 4 morning news. now we have a follow-up kron four's. philippe djegal has details. >> a shotspotter activation lead oakland police officers to respond to a shooting near frank ogawa plaza at around 4 o'clock in the morning. upon arrival, the officers located an individual suffering from a gunshot wound. oakland police say that person died on scene. they were killed after an oakland police sergeant shot police say the veteran officer was on his way to city hall to start his shift in the area when the armed suspect approached his car. police say at some point the officer opened fire, killing the person and the reason for the shooting is under investigation. in a statement, the president of the oakland police officers association, barry donelan says, quote, this morning at oakland city hall, a criminal picke

east bay shoreline looking sweet as well. ing to stick around all day today. in fact, a lot of the forces are working in our favor, even if we had fog, that would be eaten away very easily because you go upstairs about 10,000 feet or so. we're talking dry air like the arctic, 50 degrees below 0 for dew point values way up there. and they would have no problem eating away at the fog temperature. check for you. we have a lot of 50's off to the east bay up north 40's. 54 san francisco. 48 for san jose. the setup looks like some cloud intrusion tomorrow from that little cluster you see out here, this big job be out towards our west. that develop into a low and that as a player for the middle of the week, timing looks like that may affect your wednesday morning commute and then unsettled weather to kind of finish the week. we're looking for successive system coming out of the gulf of alaska. that will be cold out and that will deliver some mountain snows up to tahoe by the weekend. let's get back to what's going on over the next 48

there's your carpet of lights going on for the east bay shoreline as we speak a little quick tour how our temperatures are going right now. we have 40 year 50's rather. 48 dublin, 56 up pittsburgh and the north bay, mostly upper 40's near about 50 and again, we have some fairly dry air that allow the temperatures to fall in the 40's inland east bay shoreline, the lower 50's and again, more 40's up north. now, futurecast for looks pretty clear tonight. and tomorrow, a few little scattered clouds kind of spilling in because the traffic is going up in around us. and it really is going to take it to the end of the week. we finally start to see some cloud cover or missed. maybe a little sprinkle up in the north bay with this dry air are really wouldn't bet on it. not until the weekend we went might be able to scrounge up something back to our talked about them being a little bit of a breeze off shore. they switch. here we go. that's going bring our marine layer back this by thursday. that will moisten up at least the bay area to bring up with our numbers should typically be. but as far as

we know the plane departed from the east bay. >> today in the bay's kris sanchez in our news room thismorning. kris, what else are we learning about this crash at this hour? >> we just heard back from the faa an hour ago or so. the wreckage was found just a few hours ago. this is the scene where the plane was found. it was very, very dark and there was rain and fog there as well. we don't know if the pilot who died in the crash is also the owner of the cessna p10 plane. the owner is from carlsbad and has the highest pilot rating. the flight was uneventful until the plane attempted a landing at another executive airport where the gsp signal from the plane was lost. the crash was 300 yards from homes, and one witness told us, believe it or not, he heard nothing. >> i am seeing the direction the plane is now and it could have just flown into my house. that is wild. >> we expect more details as the sun comes up and investigators can see that crash site by daylight. an ntsb investigation team is headed to that site. >> thank you. >>> president biden's focus turns to the apec summit happenin

we are seeing upper 70s into the east bay today. it almost feels summerlike. heading into this weekend, we will get the fall like weather but for now, enjoy cloudy skies into this afternoon and some showers in the forecast as we head into the weekend. daytime highs today in san francisco, the 70s. we warm up more into the northbay this afternoon. here is what we are looking at heading into this weekend. clouds are starting to roll their way in from offshore. showers impacting much of northern california. once we head into this weekend, the showers will start sweeping and from offshore and impacting us in the bay area. that happens late saturday night. here is the last band of rain pushing its way to the south. it is not that impressive of a system but we will continue to see this unsettled weather not only saturday but as we head into our weekend forecast. it is low pressure offshore. these are the systems we will start seeing more frequently, moving its way into the gulf of alaska. that is what we are expecting this we can. as we head into next week, that uns

. >>> a fire destroying a home in the east bay hills. one point the entire town of canyon was put on alert. today in the bay's bob redell is live for us. we saw how intense the flames were, bob. how is the fire conditions now? >> reporter: well, the fire is out and has been out for a couple hours. the fire department has left the scene and the town of canyon. if you are not familiar, we are in the hills not far from arenda. at one point overnight the fire department did advise the residents that live in canyon to prepare for evacuate because of the fire up the street from our location. the fire started at 10:30 last night, it destroyed the house and then the fire spread to half an acre of brush around the home. you might be able to see why in the video people were prepared to leave. as the name canyon implies, this area is steep and full of vegetation, very dangerous for wildfires. >> there are concerns, and a quick and rapid response by all the agencies, we were able to get the thing knocked down. >> reporter: again, the town of canyon,

still the inner east bay, though, conquered santa rose at 57 degrees. . little bit of wind right now. half moon bay, you can see a little bit of a southerly flow. it's also been picking up in napa in fairfield there about 12, 13 miles per hour. this is the air quality currently, as you can see where all the yellow is, that is moderate. and that does include san francisco right down the peninsula over to the east bay and the south. as i mentioned, north bay doing a little bit better hanging out in the green. but there is just a little bit of haze out there. so we're expected to stay moderate today all across the bay area. same story as we work our way through our work week. so at the moment, it doesn't look like anyth ng i when it come in and kind of knock this out of the way. so the best you can do is maybe not, you know, be burning fireplaces and things like that trying not to contribute to it. we also do have a system that is offshore. that is our low pressure system set to bring us a few showers as we get into our evening. not here yet, but you can ce

skies are brightening above the east bay hills or other up into the marine county had buttons east bay hills are brightening to golden gate bridge. starting to get a little bit on the drier side. now, you can see we've really fizzled out across the bay area. most of that rainfall is retreating further and further southward. now, you can actually see some pretty good shower activity right around the channel islands just offshore of southern california. back up here in the bay. things are quieting down a few sprinkles here and there, but not a lot unknown at this point. so from here forward, looks like we're going to be pressing into brighter and brighter skies. current temperatures in the 40's and 50's berkeley and oakland at 49 alameda at 50 degrees. also know about cool. 46. definitely not as cold as we have been later today. sunshine and 60's sounds pretty familiar. i'll talk more about it ahead. as for your roads, things are still wet out there. so even though rain is not falling actively for most areas doesn't mean the roads are magically dried out. so you still got to take it slow

we really start to see it picking up in the peninsula and parts of the east bay. it will be approaching the south bay. it doesn't look like a whole lot of activity. there may be another wave of that moving through later this evening, that, once again, will bring the chance of thunderstorms. additional rainfall totals, about a quarter inch of rain or less. the farther south you are, less rain you'll see. there's still a winter weather advisory in effect for the sierra. we could see 1 to 8 inches of snow, and it may be close to a foot for some of the higher elevations above 8,000 feet. we are looking at some cool weather, but wednesday looks really nice. but then look at the low. it drops down to 40 degrees and we may see some north bay towns dropping into the 30s. for veterans day, we'll see a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the mid-60s. san francisco will continue to see highs in the lower 60s. >>> mike, you were seeing a little more of that mist happening out there. >> yeah, kari. here is our view from emeryville. it makes a really cool picture. you can tell th
