st. louis region. >> this is just the parts of missouri that are in flood trouble today. take a look there, and much of illinois and east tennessee, and kansas and arkansas and 13 states in all, the rivers are swelling, the emergency crews are shutting down interstates, and right now 17 million people are living in danger of those floodwaters. cnn's alina machado was in pacific, missouri, on the banks of the meramek river. >> we know that many residents have had to evacuate and leave everything they own behind because of the rising floodwaters. here in pacific, officials tell us that some at least 400 businesses and homes have already been flooded, and the authorities will get a sense of the extent of the damage once these waters start to recede. i want to show you what we are looking at right now. these are businesses and homes, dozens of them surrounded by several feet of water. what can -- what you are looking at is the overflow of the merrimamar meramec river, and this rif is not expected to crest until tomorrow. the flood stage here is 15 feet, and it has been above that since sunday. it is expected to surpass 35 f

east coast, folks not even wearing their coats. >> no, unfortunately, that's really the best part of it, because looking at the severe threat we have today, it is wide spread and dangerous. we have flooding expected from st. louisy. look how much rain is in the forecast. we're talking at least 6 inches through monday. so very heavy rain expected. even severe storms in and around the dallas area as we go through the afternoon. if that's not enough, a vigorous historic winter storm is brewing just in eastern new mexico and west texas. the national weather service there saying they haven't seen a storm like this in 30 years. it will be historic. there's a blizzard warning for amarillo, into lubbock, eastern new mexico. the mountains there, we could see snowdrifts up to several feet. it's really incredible when you break down what's happening. sleet and freezing rain to all snow tonight. saturday night and into sunday. snowfall totals at least a foot or higher it and the drifts could be ten feet. imagine how big that is. we'll look at whiteout conditions because of the strong wind, blowing and drifting snow and dangerous windchills. 5 to 10 degrees below zero. travel not advised. the snowfall forecast, another bran
