in elkins park moving to montgomery county it is closed between cedar road and 611 for long-term construction work. chris? >>> 5:32. we continue to follow breaking news out of the tacony section of philadelphia. police are investigating a string of car fires. one of the fires spread to a home with a family inside. nbc 10's jesse gary is live for us on dittman street now. the big question is do police think the fires are connected? >> reporter: well, it sure looks that way. that's what they are looking to confirm using arson-sniffing dogs to see about the accelerant that probably was used in this case. you can see the burned minivan over to the left-hand side. that mercury mariner. that is alexander abad's vehicle. he and his family went back to sleep. he has a second vehicle so he can get to work but the fire touched off a burned portion of the second floor bedroom. and that did not spread inside due to what police or fire investigators say is asbestos covering on the outside. this is a couple blocks down and to the left. the vehicle, the dark-colored nissan, somebody set that ablaze at 1:00

we turned on 611 and are headed north toward elkins park. yes, our snow tires are helping us on some of the smaller city streets. fortunately, though, the accumulation is just about an inch and it's really light and powdery. even if you don't have snow tires like we do, you'll be okay getting through them. the majors around philadelphia 76, 95 the vine street zres skbresway, all are really good. the roadways for the most part are just wet, but they've been plowed and not causing any major problems. even on parts of 611 like you're seeing right now, there is still some slush, still is some snow. so you want to proceed with caution. but for the most part, you're looking good. if you're going to step outside of your car, conditions are going to obviously change. it's raw out there, so you're going to want your winter jacket your hat, your gloves. the snow is coming down. the wind has continued throughout the morning and kind of throwing the snow at your face and in your direction. so elements are different outside. it's a raw day out there. for
