. >> and eric fisher is rare for our area. >> it is. usually, you do not see tornadoes in the middle of the night. between midnight and five across the area. those are the most dangerous -- in the middle of the night -- we're all asleep and no one is paying attention to the weather. the crews are trying to chew up roads to the emergency crews who will be trying to get in the neighborhoods. and when we talk about the rarity of the event, here's a look at the statistics. how surprising it would be to happen in a place like concord in the middle of the night without a lot of warning. this is the first warning since 2015. and that was a long stretch for us. the longest stretch between tornado warnings. that nocturnal tornado, first time since 1970 which happened a little after 2 a.m. that's what we saw out there. in terms of a historical reference, here's the radar image. it was a spinup on the line. the classic new england tornado. and then it lifts to the north and east. and kudos to the national touched down in concord. and we had signif

. >>> we want to get back to eric fisher who is live in concord at the scene of the overnight tornado. >> we've had some pretty damage. and considering this happened in the middle of the night when people were sleeping, hard to believe that no one was hurt. >> imagine the scene. i talked to one guy who lives up on the top of the road. and crews are allowed in there right now. he's a bit of an insomniac. and the warning goes up and all of a sudden he feels the air pressure change inside the house and feels all the moment. that's the tornado going through. and you can see the types of trees that came down and the scope of the damage here in concord. almost every single tree fell away from a home. i can't even tell you. it's amazing how fortunate we are that none of the trees came crashing into the middle of the house in the middle of the night. take a look at the recent tornadoes that have come this was the first since last year. there was a day when we had two. and both of those were weaker tornadoes. and those are the ones that are more typical, the ef0 and ef1. of course, the ef2 in

let's check in with our chief meteorologist eric fisher. and there's a warning in place. >> there's one severe thunderstorm warning in place until 6:00 this evening. you can see it in orange. this storm has been moving from the packston area and now it's east. and at times, the storm has been rotating. no tornadoes out there. don't want to get anyone too alarmed but there's rotation on all the storms so we're treating them carefully. and some of the heaviest walnut and up to old bay road. and eastward to hudson on coolidge street. seeing torrential rainfall. and you don't rainfall. some gusts here could be as strong as 60 miles per hour as it continues thnortheastward path. looking at the timeline, acton by 6:01. and stowe by 5:47. and this storm has been rotating a little bit. all these storms have a local of -- have the ability to rotate. look at the lightning tracker, we look at winds and s here and lighter rotation. i'm not overly concerned with this particular storm, just heavy rain. and we've seen downpours to the south. and reports o

we want to get right to eric fisher. incredible pictures. >> several storms all rotating in indiana. and reports of different tornadoes there. one came through indianapolis and the tornado lifted when it wentst we've been watching the storms north of indianapolis. this tornado warning is for kokomo. the north side of town will be struck by one tornado. and this is likely another one that's going to move in the next couple of minutes. and these are north of indianapolis. same system comes to us thursday night. and not expecting severe weather. we'll talk about the local developing stories overseas. the first a devastating earthquake in central italy. the death toll has just increased again. at least 159 people are dead. and 368 more are injured. the magnitude 6.2 earthquake caused homes and buildings to collapse. and the town of amatrice is one of the hardest hit. there's some good news. an 8-year-old girl out of the rubble alive. the earthquake is thousands of miles away. >> for boston's tight knit community, it's hittin

eric fisher is here. we could see storms. >> tomorrow will be a very stormy day. it's funny to think that this feels comfortable. it's 89 in boston. 89 in taunton. and the humidity is a little bit lower, making it a bit more manageable but still very warm. an area of low pressure is going to move across the great lakes, and it's got a connection to the tropics. the that went to louisiana. not as extreme here but it will draw up moisture and storms. partly cloudy and we'll hold in the 60s. as we look to tomorrow it comes at us in a couple of phases. there's a chance for showers tomorrow morning. and then we watch a warm front push through. with that we get more humid air and we start to fire up the storms heading into the island. if you cut a line in here, north of here is the highest potential of seeing heavy rainfall, severe thunderstorms and locally heavy rain that could cause flash flooding on the roads. and that will last early into tomorrow night. damages wind gusts and there's a chance for an isolated spinup tornado in southern new england tomorrow. we'll ta

we want to get right to eric fisher with the latest. >> the latest advisory in from the hurricane center now a tropical storm. we have been watching this system for over two weeks now just reaching tropical storm status today. it's ne mexico. it is starting it's move toward the florida panhandle. that is where it is expected to make landfall late tomorrow night or early on friday morning. the part of the track that is still a little bit up in the air is as it moves away from the mid-atlantic. we are expecting a lot of heavy rain this weekend and wind. as it gets up towards long is the expectation. notice at this time not expected to be a very powerful storm at that particular moment. in the short term the biggest threat here is flood and rainfall. for us as we look towards friday we are still dry, we get into saturday, we are still dry to start the weekend. the question mark for our forecast is as we head into sunday and monday will this area of high pressure anchor over new england and keep this stall just either way we will get some rip currents, rough seas, and a chance for coastal er

and eric fisher is just back from concord, and picks up team coverage, and eric, the time it hit was unusual. >> looking back at the tornado data base going to 19 a, 272 -- 1950, 272 tornadoes in southern new england, and two were nocturnal, and the last time it happened was 1970. it was the first confirmed june 23rd of last year. we had a pair. take a look at the pictures from the air. walking around in here there was a tremendous amount of tree damage, and it seemed like almost every tree fell away from a home, and just remarkable luck. you would have expected to see a lot more structural damage. here's the stats from the weather service. they did the storm survey early this morning. just after 3:00 a.m. on the ground less than 10 minutes. only a half mile long path, but enough to create a bit of damage. now the story tonight, fall in the air. temperatures in the 40s for some when you wake up in the morning, so a light jacket out the door. but we'll warm to the 70s, some touching 80 in the afternoon. >>> now at 11:00, driving up the cost of your commute. new e-tolls along the pike

we go right to chief meteorologist eric fisher. we don't want big storms, but we want rain. >> yes, we want a tropical connection to ease the rain fall. a lot of activity across the atlantic. there's gaston, a pair of tropical depressions, and a new wave off the coast of africa that will be one to watch. it's about eight days away though. of bermuda, bringing us higher wave action, but that's all. this one along the outer banks is not looking impressive, but it could spawn a few showers wednesday night into thursday, and tropical depression 9 looking much more impressive, and should become a tropical storm into the day tomorrow, it's going to do a little hook, move across florida into thursday, and then we'll watch this one toward the tail end of it's expected to pop out across the east coast, and stay just to the south, but close enough to keep a close eye on it for the labor day forecast. the first depression will bring a few showers though, and we'll track them out coming up. >>> and the dry conditions fueling this brush fire in

. >> o'donnell: we want to bring in eric fisher, our chief meteorologist in our sister station in boston, wbz. he is tracking hermine as well as two hurricanes in the pacific. eric, you have looked at it all. how intense is this going to get? >> norah we have watched the system for two weeks and today reaching tropical storm status and looking much more organized than it has over the course of further strengthening is expected before landfall to a strong tropical storm and maybe getting to cat 1 hurricane status. we have warnings from the tampa area, reaching around into the panhandle. also, storm surge is going to be a big issue. the hurricane center has a new product, these storm surge maps. i would really recommend anyone who lives this that area to check out those mams on the hurricane center's web site. making landfall late tomorrow night in florida, moving up south carolina. what happens after that is a little less certain. we'll watch the storm stall out just south of long island as we head into the weekend. indication we are going to see strong impacts around the mid-atlantic, st

. >> and kristen fisher joins us now with the very latest on the campaign trail. >> hey, eric.he candidates may be taking the day off. but their campaign managers certainly are not. today trump's new campaign manager kellyanne conway, she made headlines this morning when she said it's, quote, to be determined whether trump still soorps deportation force to remove undocumented immigrants from the united states. remember, that idea has been a big part of trump's campaign, especially during the primaries. conway also said trump just had the best week of his entire campaign because in her words, he is finally able to be himself. perhaps a dig at former campaign chair paul manafort who resigned earlier about his alleged ties to russia. it's something robbie mook seeds upon today. >> we need donald trump to explain to us the extent the hand of the kremlin is at the core of his own campaign there is a web of financial interests that have not been disclosed, and there are real questions being raised about whether donald trump himself is just a puppet for the kremlin in this race. >> so
