steve jerve is live in the forecast center with the latest tropical storm, fiona. >> absolutely, fiona is out there. not really a factor for us. but it is a reminder that the 2016 hurricane season is heating up. especially out in the atlantic where we expect it to this time of year. we talk about the peak of see the biggest increase of tropical activity. crosswalking into the mountain where september 10, august and september, 61% of all storms occur. 40 miles an hour winds for fiona. not impressive. never has been. a smaller storm fiona continues. also, that area south of there over the next five days. about a 50% chance of off of africa. so we are watching the tropics all over the place. you can see the forecast track for fiona well off the shores of the united states. in florida. and likely will turn north and eventually weakening some. the other area we reference, i will take a look a little later on. talks about computer models that are a 50% chance of moving into the west. back to you. >> all right, thanks steve. >>> now we have a warning for usf students. university police are on

this is fiona and fiona doesn't want to give up the ship. this storm at 35 miles per hour is just a tropical depression. but fiona wants to hold together at least an area of low pressure and turn towards the east coast of the u.s. our latest computer model charts. if that trend continues some of that moisture can actually get mixed up on the east coast that would be something that could head toward us. we'll watch that very closel you out to gaston this is tropical storm gaston i think we're on a disney kick here. it wants to become a hurricane as it pushes towards the east of bermuda. remember what happened to fiona it kept jogging farther so gaston looks like it wants to go to the east of bermuda. this takes to you saturday night at 8:00. several days away. out you go in time. temperature high 68 degrees. 58 for new bedford it's cooling. on 53 in keen, new hampshire there will be some upper 40s back here. overnight in gardner going down to 51 degrees. at lunchtime it will be in the 70s. everywhere. high temperatures tomorrow 70s out here i

what fiona was. we're not going to track fiona any more. it's what's called post tropical at this point. this one has a nice spin to it. those tropical storm gaston of this one here trying to come together. it doesn't have the circular look to it. but it's developing. clouds more prominent, rain pushing towards the something we'll have to watch. first start with gaston. the latest the the national hurricane center. 65 miles per hour winds, tracking off to the north as a category 1 storm. previously a category 2 hurricane here and weakened but now a category 2 to the east of bermuda but still way out in the ocean. this takes you to sunday afternoon. that's why these are all smushed together. i'll make it prettier later on. takes you to saturday afternoon this storm, though, a little different. this is what they're called before they get a name. they get signatures like this, invest 99 national hurricane center is being investigated, watch closely. what we can do is not show a track from the hurricane center. they haven't done that yet, in th

let's talk about what is going on with fiona. fiona is the smaller area we are talking about. it is drifting to the west at 10 miles per hour. out of this. the national hurricane center believes in the next .4 hours it will drop below tropical storm status. then you see this very disorganized area here. at there is a 50/50 chance over the next five days this could become a tropical system. it's not bury organized. it's really a cluster of thunderstorms. that one would had more toward the puerto rico area. half hour. right now, look at those temperatures. cool at the shoreline. inland, basically in the 80's. look at that sky. if you fair weather clouds. 75 degrees. there is that breeze off the ocean. that kept it cool in boston. that reading taken out a logan airport. the dew point, not bad. we were in the 70's not so many days ago. perhaps even a few upper 50's. another nice, comfortable night out there. what about the high temperatures tomorrow? 75 degrees. even boston should be 79. inland, temperatures in the mid-80's with a little bit of elevation, even cooler at worcester

this is fiona. tropical storm fiona. you saw how far we had to fly into the atlantic to see this. and fiona has winds of 40 miles per hour. that's the pressure, which is not very low and the track would take fiona off to the northwest and here are some of the different days and their miles per hour forecast. up to 50 miles per hour, but still, the u.s. coastline still not in site by monday. not a threat to the u.s. i've been looking at all the will be like, what the jet stream looks like early next week and unless the storm slows down and waits for a front to go on past and for another ridge of high pressure, there's just not a path for it to make it to the east coast of the u.s. that's certainly good news. things can change, we know that, they can slow down, they can veer to a different path, so we'll watch the tropical system, but right now, doesn't seem to be a threat at all. and forming on the same day hurricane bob formed back in 1991. and for those kids who don't here in southern new england. way back in 1991, 25 years ago. this rainshower activity associated with the severe

of fiona. you can say good-bye to fiona. we have tropical storm gaston strengthening in the atlantic and we are watching closely invest 99l which currently has a 60% chance of development. gaston moving off west, northwest at 21 miles per hour. expected to strengthen into a hurricane but we're not expecting this to impact florida and likely not even the u.s. as it makes the open atlantic. and what we're watching more closely is the tropical wave, invest 99l, you can see the spaghetti models bringing the storm to the north and west. and by the weekend, you can see it's moving in the direction of florida. so it's still a ways away. right now, not a tropical depression. not a named storm. but there's a 60% chance of development, especially towards the end of this week. and we have the hurricane hunters out today investigating was, it's still very disorganized. just a tropical wave. did see wind gusts up to 37 miles per hour within this storm but again, at this point, it's just too unorganized to become an official system. conne

now, there's fiona. we also have a tropical wave that has a potential over a five-day period. about a 50% chance of development. also we have an of africa that once it emerges a tropical wave could become a 30% chance of a tropical system. this time of year, the eastern atlantic and look for these developing systems. so 99 l. is what we're calling that area south of fiona, and with 30-mile-per-hour winds, the forecast track straight west. we'll keep any on it. just a tiny chance of seeing a coastal shower. all the way into the early part of next week. what that northwest flow does do is move everything from west to east pushing it inlan so the better chance of some convergent showers and thunderstorm also be in some of those spots. the rain chance trending lower than normal. 30% for saturday. 20% for sunday. and then by monday, a 20% chance as well. the temperatures near 90 degrees. overnight low temperatures in the upper 70s through this period. largely because we're ng off of the gulf of mexico and the waters are warm, so that just makes it feel a bit warmer. high temperatur

we've all gotten familiar with fiona now a depression. that the closest one to us but still far away. the national hurricane center upgraded tropical depression number seven and they are very welcome tropical storm -- storm herman. let's start with fiona. the nicest thing i could say about this is that is a disorganized storm. there's not much else to say is that it will meander as a weak tropical this -- depression work this system the middle one, which could become herman has a 60% chance of developing. they will out tomorrow to investigate the hurricane. this one has the best potential of impacting the united eights. it is all a wait and see for the next few days. one thing we do not have to wait and see about is tomorrow's great start. low 60s as you head out the door tuesday morning for work and school all the way 270 by 9:00 a.m. with no heat index. however, we do have 90s that will eventually have back i will tell you when in just a morning rush-hour crash at i-40 interim. seven cars are involved. three completely burned. this was

let's take we have tropical depression fiona. it's continuing to weaken but two other systems invest 99 and invest 90, both looking healthy this morning. there's the latest on fiona. it's having a very hard time holding together. and it's going to make a curve toward bermuda and it will be no threat to the u.s. this system, invest 99 we will keep a close eye on as the models generally take it in the direction of the lesser antilles and puerto rico and bahamas. has a 40% chance of developing interest a named system in the next five days. here at home, high pressure keeping us quiet and warm this morning. 18 in tampa. 79 in st. pete. and over the next couple day, very warm, low to mid-90s through wednesday. and those temperatures will slowly start to ease back by the time we hit next weekend and add more moisture as we transition back to the tip cal summertime pattern. and seeing the typical >>> well, we appreciate no water so thank you very much. >> yes. >> we have traffic building. a couple issues going on. and here's congestion,

maybe a few showers off the edge of cuba but it is into the fiona and yet, another tropical wave that could be getting going . as far as fiona is concerned, this looks like it's going to be a fish story continuing into the atlantic and curving around. and the one behind it shows about a 50% chance of getting its act together and that is going to take a more southerly path. at least, that is what these spaghetti models are applauding at this point. and if gets dicey, we will let you know about it. our satellite radar composite shows mostly clear and temperatures are mostly mild to start off with 75 right now and lakeland. sarasota, 79 and the same reading in winterhaven. and 79's in dallas county. st. petersburg at 79 and 80 at tampa international airport. will watch those winds out of the se shift and they will help to push the storms inland they will push inland later on so by 6:00, we will have a few showers around. tomorrow, even less chance of rain. maybe 20%, at most so it looks like a mostly dry weekend as we go through and take that nice start with temperatures in the 70s up to

fiona is still holding together as a tropical storm. thought it would be gone by now, but it's holding on. maximum sustained winds barely there. it's not doing much but the rotation here. the tracking puts it towards ber mude. it will probably hold in the tropical storm status for 32 hours. rain. the tropics, lots of activity going on. you have fiona and this very disturbed area of weather. we're investigating it. we call it invest 99. doesn't get a name until it becomes a storm. you have to sustained winds of 39 miles per hour. we put it in the computer moelds and get the spaghetti plot. you see where each computer model thinks it's headed. you see a we're talking about the end of this being seven days out so it's nothing imminent. right now, doesn't look like there's that much strength to it. look at the coast of africa, where all of our hurricanes begin or most begin. we see kluclusters of thundersts that get to the warm atlantic and become tropical. we have a large area here. i want to show you two computer models tracking this. hur

we have tropical storm fiona in the central atlantic. this morning. fiona will start to fizzle out as it goes through the central atlantic the next several days. wind shear is tearing that system apart . we have to watch this one, invest 99 closely. that is taking us in the general direction of the bahamas . again, this one will bear watching over the next several days. a new system coming off of africa also has a very . things are starting to heat up in the atlantic just as we anticipate for this time of year. at home our rain chances are below average. any storms that form will push inland as we go through the day. coastal communities, you will not see quite as much through the day. starting off your monday we will see dry warm weather to start. no rain expected in the morning except right or wrong -- along the coast and still hit or tuesday afternoon. we will get our rain chances boosted back by seasonal lever -- level .today we're at 91 degrees with a western wind at 5 to 10 miles per hour. overnight it will drop to 79 . we will keep higher humidi

there is fiona moving to the west, northwest. not really a factor. re focus on what is south of the area. that's a look at the satellite imagery. this area has about a 30% chance of developing. the area west of th dominate across the region. rain chances, 20%. we are actually transitioning back into a northwesterly flow as the big high you just saw will build in to the south and west. and give us more of a northwesterly flow. rain chances 30% and 40%. so everything will kind of start to march eastward now as opposed to westward which is what we have seen all week. on the wrap model, you can see the storms do develop here for the evening hours and some of these inland spots as the two areas come together and showers and storms. the temperatures will be warm until you are lucky enough to be cooled off. overall, the rain chances are lower this weekend. so, we will see plenty of sunshine. temperatures up near 90 degrees. overnight low temperatures might be a little warmer because of a light westerly and northwesterly flow into the area. next week, more o

we've got an eye on fiona right now, but fiona is ding away. it is a tropical store. this afternoon, it becomes a tropical depression. this is one worth organized. when you put the computer models, tracking over the next several days, you see what's happening. it starts to aim towards puerto rico and southern florida. i have one fairly reliable computer model saying this could be a hurricane for southern florida. that would not happen until a week or more from monday. so it's a long way out, obviously a lot of things can happen. i wouldn't be putting it in the bank right now. it does make us keep an eye on what's happening in the tropics can happen. as i mentioned, we need rain. moisture would be great. boston and worcester both checking in over eight inches dry for the year. look at this area, extreme drought. this is almost like what we were talking about, say, in southern california. this is extreme stuff we're talking about. very dry. be careful with open flames over the next couple days until we get rain in here. the only rain we've seen this morning, towards blo
