hi, everyone, i'm frank mallicoat at 5:30.ute could be mighty messy for drivers in san mateo county since crews work to clear fallen trees on highway 2. jackie ward is in san mateo near a stretch of 92 still off limits thanks to one of the fallen trees. jackie. >> reporter: you know what, frank? i think that just changed within a matter of 10 seconds, not even kidding. i saw all of the crew trucks here, the caltrans, the tree cutters, all here drive out. so good news there because they had dragged out major pieces of the tree. this tree seemed to be huge and it was blocking traffic in each direction at one point. half moon bay just east of half moon bay had a similar incident with even more trees, at one point at least five trees were knocked down there, closing traffic in both directions so that area is now open too but there was a severe traffic alert that was in place here along 92 between highway 35 and skyline boulevard and i280 in san mateo county because this massive tree was blocking all lanes of traffic in both direct

i'm frank mallicoat. >> and i'm michelle. >> a car with three adult asks three children inside plunged into the water. two adults were killed in the crash. kpix reporter jackie has the latest on the story. jackie. >>reporter: we're here along highway 4 and discovery bay, a couple of miles down from where the accident happened. a stretch of this highway had to be close for a couple of hours and has since been reopened. it happened around 11:30 last night when two cars crash. one car heading eastbound crossed over and it caused a car to veer off the roadway and into the water. dive teams were called in to assist. while the cause of this accident has not been determined, speed may have been a factor. >> they need to slowdown. this roadway is straight, but it's dark out here. it's only two lanes. one in either direction. they just need to slow down. >> the parents of three children are the ones who died. the other adult in that car survived, but we don't know his relation to the kids. all four of them are being treated at tracy hospital for minor injuries. the driver of the other vehicle s

i'm frank mallicoat. nearly 6:00.residents get to show their thoughts about a homeless housing proposal. kpix 5's kiet do is live outside an empty lot where the city wants to give nearly 200 homeless a fresh start. >> reporter: they're called modular shelters and they will be built here at this empty lot on evans lane in the communications hill area of san jose. some thought went into the choice of the lot because right next door there's a recovery center and on the other side of the lot is affordable housing. the lot is huge. it was used for rv and boat storage but now it's got room for 170 people. its about six acres in size: the county plans to award the contract soon, no details yet. the modular individual units that have locks are up to 100 to 200 square feet. they have access to shared bathrooms and kitchens. now, the city may also allow couples and pets. the site is close to public transportation including buses and light rail. now, the city wants to avoid this. remember the jungle that was cleaned up more than

. >> i'm frank mallicoat. that beating coat on camera and deputies hitting the suspects numerous time in a san francisco alley. jackie ward joins us live in oakland with a shocking allegation brought to court today about what the deputy did next. jackie. >>reporter: frank, that photo tt we saw at this press conference shows how badly [indiscernible] was beaten. the attorneys are planning on filing a lawsuit, but first they filed this claim and now need to wait 45 days until they pursue a law site. in the files you can read he was beaten with a steel baton on his head, neck and back. he never tried to flee. after their attorney pleaded for help, he was pushed into the pavement and held him there for a meeting. this is the end of a high speed chase that ended in the san francisco alley. >> it was [indiscernible]. but what was more wrong was deputies violating their duty and inflicting deadly force when there was no justification for any force when a person has surrendered. >> in addition to him saying deputies u
