the freeway is shut down in both directions . i also want to mention you information about a totally separate incident . we have a very serious bus accident in san francisco at the corner of fremont and folsom . this crash happened just a little while ago . it's an injury crash and we are seeing that there are several people involved . we also have a crew on the way to that . we will give you more information on both of these things. we have crews on the way they have already arrived and will have more information coming up soon .>> when this thing is resolved right there on 80 and when i say resolved i mean persons down or in custody or however you want to phrase that, there is still collection of evidence which should take hours from this point well?>only thing is if they are collecting evidence they may be able to, once they secure the ski seem, they may be able to get eastbound 80 open . but you are right westbound 80 where the incident actually occurred there is going to be a collection of evidence and people are standing st

shoot off on a freeway. westbound lanes ever i-80 shut down all day. now the freeway has reopened. ken. >> this all started in richmond. police there were tracking down a fair field murder suspect. the man led them on a chase that ended up in the middle of interstate 80 in emoryville [ shots being fired ] >> that popping is gunfire. commuters stuck in traffic used their cell phones and captured the gunfire. they were dangerously close to the bullets. police say they were trying to negotiability a peaceful surrender but the suspect had other ideas, got ouof the vehicle, pointed his weapon and fired at officers. >> it's pretty clear that the individual was not cooperating and fired a shot and somewhere near the officers or at the officers. >> richmond police say the suspect was wanted in connection with a 2015 homicide. the victim in that case was a 68-year-old man. >>> police defending the number of shots they fired at the suv. they say when confronting an armed suspect, officers have to react for their safet

as the vehicle traveled out of the freeway it struck multiple vehicles. right now we are looking at about six vehicles involved within the parking lot, fortunately no one on the sidewalk or know when on the frontage road was hit. it appears that the driver of this truck behind me might have suffered from some type of medical episode as he was driving causing him to lose control and exit the freeway. >>chp is telling us that the driver was conscious when they arrived here on the scene and they were able to speak to him. the wife was also conscious. he was taken to the hospital with chest pain. they are evaluating his medical situation. chp saying it is miraculous that nobody was killed in this incident because of the sheer force coming off of the freeway. you think about having a medical condition, you lose control of your vehicle and you come during a very busy time when there are a lot of cars on the roadway. obviously there are eight people injured and we are hearing that they are all said to be stable. we are on the hospital right now -- on our way to

the eastshore freeway starting to get very crowded. live look this is interstate 80 near ashby heading through berkeley. you start to get slow and then by the time you get to the toll plaza, oh, man! we are backed up. here's a live look, traffic backed up to the foot of the maze. and it's about 22 minutes ride from there into san francisco connecting with 101. so do be advised those metering lights, they're on and we're seeing those slowdowns. hat's a check of your traffic; over to you. >>> we are waiting to learn the full extent of the damage caused by the largest earthquake to hit mexico in a century. at least 15 deaths are linked to the magnitude 8.2 quake. it was centered off the west coast of mexico near the border with guatemala and the damage is extensive. the quake leveled homes and forced the evacuations of hospitals near the epicenter. crews have been working all night trying to find any survivors trapped in the rubble. one million people were initially without power in the moments after the quake. that number is now down to

a very tense day out here on the freeway. motorists took cover when a gun battle began between police and the gunman on interstate 80. >> a bunch of gunshots. i don't know how much. >> he was over the stand-off. a man driving a black suv refusing to surrender. police say the suspect was wanted for a homicide in fairfield. authorities spotted his car this morning and the chase was on. the richmond police and the chp assisted, trying to get the driver to stop. a spike strip was placed in the road. >> after we spike that vehicle, it collided with the concrete barrier. >> the car they were chasing started to lose, it had a flat tire so it was starting to lose the tires. >> that's when the negotiation began. police keeping their distance with guns drawn. >> unfortunately, the suspect decided to produce a firearm and started shooting at the officers. so an exchange of gunfire occurred. and unfortunately for the suspect, he was struck multiple times. >> the suspect died later at a hospital. most commuters were stuck on 80 for hours.

the freeway was closed for nearly nine hours following a deadly police shooting. cheryl hurd joins us with new details about the suspect that was killed. >> reporter: we know the viek killed in 2015 was william freeman and a police chase led them to this freeway early this morning in emeryville. the chase ended in gun fire and a traffic tie up that brought thousands of bay area residents to a stand still for hours. >> when i saw the traffic i didn't know what was going on. i tried looking online, called some friends, they said the freeway was stopped, get off. for ronald stecphenson it was to late. >> the suspect was not cooperative and didn't comply with the officers' commands to surrender. >> reporter: the stand offended in gun fire captured by sky ranger and people on the ground. >> it's clear that the individual is not cooperating and fired a shot. and somewhere near the officers or at the officer. >> reporter: it's also unclear which officer fired the fatal shot. >> this is resulting from a homicide investigation in 2015. the victim was william freeman. >> re
