nbc 10's tim furlong is on his way to the scene. as soon as he gets there, we'll get more information on this. >>> also tonight, nbc 10 has new information of the ambush and shooting of a philadelphia police officer. police now got a tip that the gunman was caught on this surveillance video here may have been working with a larger group. sources tell nbc 10 one of the men is known in the chester area and now the concern about another attack has departments all around delaware county taking extra precautions. nbc 10's deanna durante is live in haverford township. what have you learned? >> reporter: although there is no direct threat here, the police tells me here as well as in townships across the county, they are urging officers to be extra vigilant, not to be in isolated areas alone, and if you need to take breaks, perhaps do that here at the police station. >> why do i think it has more tentacles out there? because anymore you just don't know, you know, nothing's clear cut, so could it have more tentacles and more issues out there

tim furlong live from wilmington. tough times for the entire community. >> yeah, a lot of the members of the community are here now. there's a vigil that started an hour ago. it been gaining strength. people have been singing, lighting candles, leaving things. we don't know what caused the fire that started in the front room. the man lost two of his seven children, and his wife is 4 critical condition. >> i'll be right back. >> reporter: mark told his wife and daughters he'd be right back. he had just gone to get his other kids at school. he came home to this. >> suspect trapped. >> reporter: his home, up in flames. he wasn't there when passersby and a police officer trayed to help his wife. they found her lying in the street, burned. >> make sure the baby was safe. we pulled her out. by that time she said, my children, my children, still babies up upstairs. >> reporter: christina in the hospital. burns over half of her body. her 2-year-old is okay. 3-year-old elizabeth tried to escape at the bottom of the stairs. her

nbc 10's delaware bureau reporter tim furlong checked on conditions today. now monitoring the traffic from skyforce 10. >> reporter: that's right. on the ground in wilmington all day. i found people amazingly patient. also found side streets with snow. you can see right now, at this hour, four days after the storm, still at it. this is right next to the elementary school in wilmington. crews loaded snow in a big dump truck to be taken away. most want to say good-bye to the snow. so much to handle at one time. >> i definitely think there could have been more preparation. >> reporter: angela thinks wilmington wasn't as prepared as it could have been for the storm. today spinning honda tires out of the snowy spot they occupied since snow started falling. we did find some snow covered streets in wilmington today. we also found people still shoveling. but the plows, sun, warmer temperatures have teamed up to make every street at least passable. today, the mayor took to facebook to apologize to residen residents. as mayor he accepts full responsibility. >> i didn'

. >> delaware bureau reporter tim furlong arrived on the scene about 30 minutes ago. tim, what can you tell us about this fire? >> reporter: still waiting to hear from the fire chief and the mayor, they are both here on scene trying to talk to family members, the people in the fire. we have confirmed it's a fatal fire, but officials are being careful about what they are saying because they want to make sure families are notified, so they are not being specific at this point, let's keep it at that. you can see through the tree right there, it's tough from where we have to be behind the tape, the fire was in a row home on a tightly packed street there. the back of the house we are told by neighbors is boarded up pretty tight, and they think that might have had a reason the family might not have been able to go out that side of the house if they wanted to, but it was quite a dramatic scene here, witnesses told us they saw flames shooting out the front of the house, through the front windows. doesn't look like too much damage when you look at the house from a different an

nbc 10 delaware bureau reporter tim furlong is looiive at the f command center. what did you learn? >> reporter: we literally just walked out of the update. they're still not identifying the family that lost two children in the fire. the fire broke out at 4:00 in the afternoon. a paramedic noticed the smoke and called the fire in. the engine that would have responded first yesterday was out of service but the fire department says the crew got there faster because there was one already nearby on the road. they were in a there in a minute and a half but they say the fire was too intense. the 37-year-old mother was found lying burned in the street, she's at the burn center. a passer-by saved a two-year-old child but a three-year-old girl died on the landing and the three-month-old girl was found upstairs. no cause on the fire but we are told the fire started in the first floor living room and the house didn't have any working smoke detectors. nine people lived in the house and they didn't have smoke detectors. fire officials say this is a tough one. counselors are available for the res

. >>> check in with nbc 10's tim furlong live. our shot is of those streets and roads trying to be cleared. tim? >> reporter: yeah, that's right. this is bridgeport montgomery county, you can see on fourth street one of the streets where people were complaining about. they're still working at it, trying get the snow out. we're starting to see areas where the snow's doing the -- the sun is helping to do the job for the crews and melling it away. as we came out to the western suburbs, you can see more snow on the ground. there's more work to do. as we pan over across the river, into the norristown area, we can say we're not seeing as many crews working. we're seeing clear side streets. we came out here after having heard on our broadcast how bad some of the streets were, some of complaints, council people saying they had concerns of how things were being handled. it looks better, as far as we can see. i'm sure there's some streets and people going, my street's not great. but from up in the air, we can see progress made especially on

nbc 10's reporter tim furlong live on the scene to tell us more. what have you found out? >> reporter: we've been pushing for answers all day. we've been pushing and police aren't ready to give out many. you can see an officer keeping an eye on the murder scene. police had a tough time finding the family members of the man killed so they are not read the identify him. they have a suspect they believe they know who they are looking for. >> i don't know what's going on. >> reporter: police aren't telling residents much about what happened in this house last night. the homeowner works in new york during the week, last night a call was made asking police to check on the house. they found a murder scene, a male dead. >> it's an adult male, it's not a random act and so police are currently searching for a suspect. >> reporter: the owner lives in the house with her boyfriend who was here during the week. he runs basketball clinics. >> he asked me if i want to learn how to play to come and so he could train me. >> reporter: he doesn't have a car. >> he used to walk to wawa in the

tim furlong joins us live now in wilmington to explain. hey, tim, what gives? >> reporter: yeah, i've been reading through the report, it's interesting if you get a chance to look at it. nationally the results are positive. more americans are able to keep their homes, able to pay their mortgage, reality track indicates nationally pre-recession levels, but in our viewing area the picture isn't so pretty. take a look, with all the casino closing and layoffs, atlantic city leads the way for all areas nationwide in terms of foreclosure rate. trenton came in second. the state of pennsylvania was tenth in the country for its foreclosure rate and the state of delaware is actually number six on the list. we caught up with a few minutes ago with an attorney who's helped many clients through the foreclosure process. i asked him what's happening in delaware that's had so many people foreclosing when so many people nationally are able to keep their homes. delaware problem is specific, sandwich generation, folks find themselves caring for their parents and kids and grandkid

tim furlong shows us what the public thinks of president obama's proposal. >> reporter: we have seen plenty of make shift memorials for victims of gun violence and mass shootings in america. she's helped make some herself. she's lost family and friends to gun violence on the streets of wilmington. she says she supports the president at least trying something. >> it will potentially save lives. >> he's been in office coming up on eight years. he's not going to conquer it in his last year, but if he can get the ball rolling and get a lot of people's opinion on what will work and what will not work. >> reporter: there is a debate as to whether the president's plan to use executive actions is even legal, he wants background checks and wants to close the so-called gun show loophole. it's closed in delaware, but in some states you can make private sales without background checks. some gun enthusiasenthusiasts, this delaware attorney, don't think the president's plans will address the problem. >> they've done the studies, it's not at gun shows, not at ffl dealers, it's through theft, it's t
