akins: we see natural gas being more prevalent throughout the country, from the shale gas flippers that occur across the country. the ability for that cutting knowledge in place very quickly as opposed to a call unit that takes longer to permit, longer to construct, to make those kinds of decisions by going to be very difficult to make. any long-term capacity decision for coal or nuclear to a certain extent is very difficult to make within the framework of natural gas and renewables, and other forms of resources, including transmission and smart grid activities. you are going to see a lot more development of those activities. itl will continue to exist, will continue as smaller fashion that it has in the past, not 50%, to could be more like 25% to 30%. you will see additional additions in terms of requirements for new resources to be in that natural gas renewables and energy efficiency type of framework. oliver: i want to talk about your own breakdown for energy and how it affects your fundamentals. i have a chart here charting your operating margin versus your ups and growth over the p

[ applause ] but i kidded with someone this morning that i come from a part of the country we like to drive. >> really no choice. >> and we like to drive. when you're in oklahoma city, you've got a little ways to go. you've got places that take a little while to get to. >> i love it. >> but the president was in detroit. i was with him on wednesday. and he announced the decision with respect to the cafe standards. you may not be familiar with this process. but in 2012, the previous administration, the epa worked with industry to say we're going set these emission standards for cars. we're going to set it over a longer period of time, which i think is a wise thing to do, 12 to 13 years. so there was a 2025 window as far as these evaluating these standards. well, there was going to be a midterm review in april of 2018. and the last administration in december finalized a process. and within ten days, 16 months early, rendered a decision that those standards w

particularly since we're the world's largest producer of natural gas, and natural gas is so likely totay low for years to come, since we keep finding the stuff and have little plieses to put it. and that's after liquefied natural gas plants, are being phased out as they were meant to have 40 year lives, back in the time of jimmy carter and he was -- these businesses don't want to spend anymore money fixing up their coal plants. and natural gas just surpassed coal for power this year. that number is going to diminish every year and will continue to do so. i don't think coal can be saved. the best is it's demise could be slowed. but for oil and gas companies, like it or not, the possible loosening of methane rules. the majority of -- on how the regulators are trying to make them stop producing methane as a byproduct of flaring. these companies fear that the epa are going to issue some rules limiting the amount of methane that can be produced and they're certainly tough on them already and that could cut down on the amount of drilling they could do. under the trump administration, that's
