this is video of matthew taken into custody by the galveston county sheriff's office. matthew is the man seen on surveillance videos with the hannah graham the last time she was seen. prior to today's arrest most of what police say they knew the hours before graham disappeared came from these surveillance videos they pieced together from charlottesville businesses. it was around 1 a.m. saturday, september 13, when graham and a machine believed to be matthew -- man believed to be matthew entered a bar where police say he bought her alcohol. 15 minutes later they left the bar. around 1:20 a.m. graham texted friends saying, with the i'm coming to a party, but i'm lost -- saying, "i'm coming to a party, but i'm lost." investigators believe graham got into matthew's car but was never seen again. matthew was seen saturday when he went to a charlottesville police station to ask for an attorney. police say former commonwealth attorney james camblos was hired and then mr. matthew sped away from the station. >> i am mr. matthew's attorney. i was hired by him and his family satur

a woman who will only identify herself as karen says she was sitting on a galveston, texas, beach when slammed on the brakes. she immediately recognized matthew. it was her call to police that brought the nationwide manhunt to an end. >> reporter: good morning. despite the fact it's been nearly two weeks since anyone's seen or heard from hannah graham, the authorities say they have no idea where she is but they're holding out hope that she is still alive. >> detectives from virginia are on their way to texas to question this man, 32-year-old jesse matthew who appeared before a judge in galveston after a nationwide manhunt led to his arrest in the disappearance of uva student hannah graham. he appeared confused by the charges and was not required to enter a plea. >> i read him his rights, as i did every other defendant in the county jail this morning. virginia denied his bond. the whole process took 60 seconds, maybe 90 seconds. >> reporter: matthew will be extradited back to virginia where he and graham were seen together just minutes before she disappeared on september 13th. on tuesda

for the latest let's go to heather childers for breaking details from the galveston, texas, area. >> reporter: we've been following this story this morning. police, they're calling it an extremely lucky break. jesse matthew arrested more than 1,300 miles away from the university of virginia in galveston action texas. matthew was arrested after someone called police reporting a suspicious person hanging around the beach. when police showed up, they ran the license plate on his car and the result, the car belonged to him, the fugitive from justice with a warrant out of virginia. matthew was taken into custody. he did not put up a fight, we're told. as you can see in this video taken in peacefully. it was just released to fox news. authorities had been looking for him since saturday. that is when he sped swea from officers after leaving the spaferl police -- the charlottesville police station. investigators say they still don't know why matthew was in texas but they are in the process of bringing him back to virginia and that could take a couple of days. legal experts we talked with say
