stay with us for more abc main and gervais. live from main and gervais. >>> welcome back. and happy new year to you. in fact, let's start with a couple of numbers before we get to the forecast. today, january 1st, we got to 66 degrees. that's the first day in many where we actually dropped below 70. so let's take a look back at this past december, and it was warm. it was record warm. here are the specifics on it. the average temperature, if you average out every hour over the above 60 degrees. now, how does that compare? well, the 30-year average would be more like 46.7. so this december came in, if you put every hour on top of each other and you averaged it all out, every hour was about 13 and a half degrees warmer than average. so that breaks the all-time record we have here by a good bit. so it was the warmest december on record here for columbia and just a few other stats that go with that here. check that out. 18 days where it was greater than 69 degrees. it was at least 70, 18 days. it was above 74, meaning at least 75, 13 of those days. we got to 80 december 28th, j

we're live from main and gervais on a wednesday. two familiar faces known for proposing new laws are on the afternoon. >> two richland county politicians are charged with not paying their taxes. richland county councilman kelvin washington is facing three counts of willful failure consecutive years. and former city councilman brian dequincey newman is cited with failure to pay taxes in 2012 and 2013. the charges resulteded from the investigation of the department penny tax program, newman's attorney says the investigation is not related to the current charges. >> i think the bottom line here is that he's not involved in the penny sales tax investigation. he pled straight up to two counts of failure to file taxes and what is telling is there's no plea agreement. if he was involved in some conspiracy that they were still investigating there would be a plea agreement that would have provided for him to cooperate. >> newman received two years of probation. that time will be reduced to six months after he pays nearly $11,000 in taxes owe

your full forecast is coming up gervais. >> welcome back to abc columbia news at 12:30. it's been a chilly day for us but a sunny one. we saw clear skies this morning that really allowed us to cool down. temperatures in the 40's here this afternoon. with clear skies and we'll stick with the clear skies through a good portion of the week this week. looking for high pressure to kind of take hold and allow us to see a lot of sunshine but, unfortunately, there's not a whole lot of warmth in the seven day forecast as of right now. temperatures climbing into the mid 40's as we speak. but i think a lot of spots are going to kind of plateau and we'll probably put up a few more degrees. anything higher than 50 is going to be a little far fetched for most areas today. looking at the 24-hour temperature change. most of us around 10 degrees colder compared to what we were seeing at this time yesterday. even though we saw some sunshine, it wasn't necessarily feeling as warm as it actually was. today feeling colder. not as breezy but still enough to make that extra bite with the wind
