reggie. >> thanks, gloria.ple across the country are stepping up to help animals in the wake of the wildfires in southern california. these animals arrived in washington state yesterday. it was a similar scene here in the bay area, as shelters are trying to make room for animals displaced by the fires. abc seven news reporter luz pena visited one of the shelters, taking in pets. it's marin humane. >> as fires continue to burn, volunteers from across california are responding to one of the biggest needs. l.a.to one animal shelters are facing sending down trained staff to l.a. to help the shelters there, because their staff is absolutely overwhelmed and exhausted. they're transporting dogs, cats, and other small animals out of l.a. area to free up shelter space. last week, the san diego humane society transported 39 dogs from the pasadena humane society. over the weekend, marin humane welcomed 46 animals to the bay area. >> you can see all the ones that have the pink signs on it. those are all from l.a. county. g

thanks so much, gloria.ight now, people in southern california are on high alert as the region is facing another round of dangerous fire conditions and a particularly dangerous situation. >> red flag warning is in effect until 3 p.m. today. we could see more intense winds before relief finally arrives. here's where things stand this morning. with the fires that have been burning for just over a week now. yesterday, officials confirmed another death, bringing the total killed to 25. containment of the palisades fire is improving now up to 18%. it hasn't grown in the past day and remains at over 23,000 acres. firefighters are also making progress on the eaton fire. it is also stayed about the same size and containment is up to 35%. but the big concern this morning are those winds through this afternoon. after that, though, conditions are expected to improve now by wednesday evening. >> wednesday night i expect the critical conditions to diminish. and then for thursday into the weekend, we're actually get back

i also want to talk with gloria pazmino, who's joining us now, and gloria, chicago migrant rights groups are suing the trump administration into in a bid to block this ice enforcement. so what can you tell us about that piece of the story? >> yeah, jessica, advocates are turning the fear that rosa is describing that's being felt in that community. and they're hoping that the courts can be a bit of help in this moment. they have filed a lawsuit in federal court accusing the trump administration and ice of violating the first and fourth amendment rights of the residents of chicago, which they say are being targeted because of the city's sanctuary city jurisdiction and their status as a sanctuary city. we have a statement from one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit. this is from sheila betti, and she's with community justice clinic, one of the plaintiffs that filed this suit. and she said that the impending raids are a brazen attempt to stomp out the sanctuary city movement and run roughshod over the first amendment. our communities need organizers, vision and advocacy now more than ever. thi
