i just got a press release from texas governor greg abbott's office announcing that the state of texas is sending the state of california a large number of firefighters, engines and medics to help out with these wildfire efforts. texas governor abbott says that request came to texas through cal fire and through the california office of emergency management. that is run by governor gavin newsom. so that is fantastic to see. obviously, texas and california, governor newsom and governor abbott, have taken their shots at each other politically, they have completely opposite politics. but in an emergency situation like this, texas willing to send help here to california. california often sends help for hurricanes, so it's great to see that level of cooperation because we certainly need it out hire in the los angeles area. as this -- here. as this fire continues to burn out of control ahead of another santa ana wind event, we want to send it out to correspondent robert ray out here in the pacific palisades. rob, what are you seeing? -- robert, what are you seeing? >> reporter: yeah, bill, go

one is that this morning, texas governor greg abbott said that he is sending these texas department ofteams that are being deployed, and they are going to be working with the department of homeland security and the trump administration to actually arrest undocumented immigrants. so that's one piece just announced this morning. but yesterday, governor abbott announced that he was also sending an additional 400 texas national guard soldiers to the border to assist with this immigration enforcement. and it comes after yesterday afternoon, we saw a disturbing incident along the border in front in texas, where customs and border protection agents say that they came under fire from members of the mexican cartel. thankfully, no injuries reported there, but part of what is going on is they are sending these troops down to the border. and of course, it comes in the days since we saw those military planes beginning to land here, delivering hundreds of active duty army and marine troops that are also going to be assisting federally with this southern border mission. we are told the last of those

and now governor greg abbott has now directed the texas military department to deploy the texas tactical border force to the rio grande valley to coordinate with the u.s. border patrol agents there. the texas tactical border force will surge over 400 additional soldiers as well as c one 30's and helicopters to join thousands of texas national guard soldiers already deployed to the border to collaborate with u.s. border patrol agents. there. now the trump administration is promising to ramp up immigration enforcement as the week goes on. washington correspondent trevor shirley is in dc with more. >> the administration says these operations are only targeting known criminals, but critics say the operations are far more expansive. ice officials say this weekend they made more than 1200 arrests nationwide. us in numbers increase the number of arrests nationwide. as we open up the aperture. >> right now it's country public safety national security threats. but some democrats say the administration's immigration dragnet is catching people. it shouldn't. we're seeing kind of chaos in which. con

governor greg abbott of texas just putting out a statement saying that his peers go out to the victims that he has directed his texas department of public safety to mainly get to the bottom of it because what we know is that this vehicle used in the attack is traced back to eagle pass, texas, which is clearly a border town. but we don't have other details to fill in. a bit obviously wanting to join in with law enforcement to get to the bottom of it. we anticipate that we may learn from officials are no more why the truck was in eagle pass, texas, november but then ends up on bourbon street for this new year's day massacre? >> we're certainly hopefully that -- hoping to learn why it changed house, how it changed hands how many times do change hands because at this point, this is, we're just racing the truck itself as far as the shooter and the motive of the shooter and whatnot, those details are unclear. and of course, we don't want to speculate. but we just know that detail about eagle pass. what we are told that the shooter does not appear to have been in that truck when it was traced

governor greg abbott says he's sending more than 135 firefighters, emergency management and medical personnel. texas will also provide 45 fire engines, ambulances, command vehicles and equipment. california governor gavin newsom thanked those helping his state. right now, a curfew is in place for many of the areas under evacuation orders in los angeles county. it's a move to aid police in cracking down on looters looking to burglarize homes. law enforcement say they've already made several arrests in the fire aftermath, and they warn jail time and heavy fines await those thinking about burglarizing those empty homes. >> we've made seven arrests just in the last two days, and we even made arrests of two individuals that were actually posing as firefighters coming in and out of houses. >> so we're paying very, very close attention to everybody that's coming. >> a congressman from california tells cnn how concerned he is with people not following the directions of authorities. >> we are in the middle of a serious emergency, and i just heard from law enforcement was, please, folks need to listen
