leeanne gregg joins us live from colorado city, arizona. >> how are conditions where you are right now? >> reporter: well, it's supposed to reason this afternoon, as it has for the last three days. finding those missing people continues to be a priority. one adult and one child still missing in one of the worst disasters this community's ever faced. for the third day the search continues for 6-year-old boy lost after two vehicles swept away by floodwaters, killing three women and nine children. a frightening scene caught on video. >> oh, no. >> reporter: one of three survivors fled to get help but it was too late. >> it's just a horrific event that was totally out of our control. >> reporter: city and state officials coming to grips with reality of the loss and devastation. >> this is as much tafatality a flooding in the state. >> reporter: missing, one of seven hikers when flash flood struck. the bodies were recovered tuesday. about 25 members of the utah national guard are helping with the efforts, along with law enforcement, emergency rescue teams and hundreds of volunteers. one tal

nbc's leann gregg on the arizona side of that border. we have more rain in the forecast.you tell us? >> reporter: more rain complicating the search efforts. one of those areas to focus on today, a 7-mile stretch of the creek bed right here looking for a 6-year-old boy who was last seen in the vehicles that wept into the river on monday killing three women, mothers, sisters and nine children inside the vehicles washed away in the rains. in a separate search in the zion national park looking for three people missing part of a group of seven who got permits on monday morning to go in and do some hiking and warned at the time that conditions could become severe in the afternoon but that happens all the time in this time of the year during monsoon season. they weren't expecting things to become this severe. we're told by officials at the national weather service this was a 100-year event with the volume and pace of the rain that caused this massive flood and the search for them, four people from their group died. they were found on tuesday. the bodies of those victims. so agai

leanne gregg is live for us in h hildale, utah, and what is the latest on that one person still missing you're hearing? >> reporter: that search effort will continue tonight for the person. and what they definitely don't want to see is more rain happening, a thrash flood warning is in effect for this evening. they've been searching since this happened last night, brought in the heavy equipment. hundreds to have people volunteered to look through this debris and mud and tree limbs, all of this after the flooding, the waters receded. it happened yesterday afternoon. the warning was in place, but no one expected it to be this bad. 2 1/2 inches of rain within two hours, already on saturated soil and swollen rivers. and those two vehicles filled the 16 people, women and children, who had reportedly been to the park and stopped to take a look at the rising waters when what was described as a wall of water slammed into the back of them and shoved them into the channel. so it was a horrific scene. and you could see the dramatic pictures of the flow of the water, the strength of it. they're used
