let congressman himes finish. the question at hand is whether the fisa judge should have been told about the source of the funding. >> well, so this is another misleading element of the nunes memorandum. the notion that the judge was not told the context in which this information was developed is incorrect. now, whether individual americans were named specifically is a different question. remember when you're applying for a fisa warrant, you would typically mask the names of u.s. citizens. but the fbi did in fact in that application indicate the context in which this information was developed. so the notion that they hoodwinked the judge, which of course is the core here, is just not supportable by the evidence. >> was the judge informed it was a democratic source or just a political source, congressman? >> that i do not know. like devin nunes, i have not actually reviewed the fisa applications themselves. adam schiff and trey gowdy have. but what i'm told is that the judge was not hoodwinked. remember, it's not j

joining us now is congressman jim himes.r being here, i appreciate it. >> good evening, rachel. >> are you able to give us any further understanding of why the white house isn't releasing your memo, why they've decided to hold this one back? >> rachel, i never believed we were going to see the democratic memo approved by the white house. i've never seen this president do anything in the interest of fairness or truth or accuracy. what he does is in the interest of his own -- his own case. and, you know, this -- this proves it. here's a white house when the fbi, you'll recall, ancient history a week and a half ago when the fbi and department of justice said it would be exceedingly reckless to release the republican memo, the white house said, no problem, let's do it anyway. however now they have classification concerns with the democratic memo. this has nothing to do with transparency, a search for the truth. this has to do with this week's installment coming out of the committee, or ron johnson or the white house trying to er

joining us now is congressman jim himes. thank you for being here.now it was a pain and a long process and a big fight to get this memo declassified after the earlier republican memo had been declassified. are you happy that this is out? are you satisfied in terms of what was redacted and released to the public? >> i am. i sort of chuckled because of course the process to get the republican memo out was all of 72 hours over the objections of the fbi. we wanted to be a little bit more careful, give the fbi and doj, the department of justice, an opportunity to make sure we weren't disclosing additional classified information and, you know, lo and behold it got released on saturday night. not your most intense news hours. i know what's behind the redactions, and the good news is the information we needed to get out there and tell the story that the nunes memorandum was misleading at best, you can read our memorandum and it's pretty esoteric, pretty technical. you can read our memorandum and see the nunes memorandum was an attempt to slime the federal bu

joining us now is democratic congressman jim himes of connecticut. always good to have you on the show. thank you for being with us. >> thank you. >> what do we know? there is an apparent double standard going on here. reading through the notes of the white house counsel about why they were okay releasing the nunes memo doesn't seem to be the same standard. they don't even cite the same executive guidelines in doing it. is that how you feel? this is just politics? >> yeah. this is very simply the white house saying over the objections of the department of justice and fbi we'll release the nunes memo. when the counter factual, rebuttal to the nunes memo comes out and the fbi and the department of justice, well, now those concerns are to be taken seriously. this is a charade, chris, to keep information that would show the nunes memo for what it is, which was conjecture and ill-founded allegations, they are determined to keep that from the public. >> have you seen schiff's memo? >> the democratic memo? >> yeah. >> sure. >> is there fair criticism that t
