. >>> the racing world is mourning the death a popular indycar driver. dan wheldon was killed yesterday. linda so is here with why there were safety concerns before the race ever started. >> reporter: during practice some were worried about the high speed of the track. drivers were clocking in at 225 miles an hour. the people that saw the crash say it was the worst crash they had ever scene. it was the final race at the las vegas speedway. dan wheldon was trying to win a share of a $5 million bonus and his car flew over another on lap 11 and crashed into a wall. 15 cars were involved in the pile y he was a two time indy 500 winners. fellow drivers and fans are mourning that terrible loss. >> i think i'm getting old. i've seen too many of these already. you ask anybody, if they could choose a way to ghoorks is the way. >> we're going -- to go that is the way. >> we're all going to miss him. >> reporter: wheldon who was 33 had scaled back on the racing to spend more time with his family. he had a wife and two sons, a 2- year-old and baby born in march. >>>
