new hampshire and iowa work together to basically narrow the field for the rest of the country. new hampshire primary has been the first in the nation for a century and it actually happened by accident. two accidents. the fortunate one is for us. one is that new hampshire decides to hold its primary in conjunction with town meetings which occurred in the springtime and that wasn't to be first, that was essentially to save money, to have multiple elections on the same day. but when we started the presidential primary, we were not first. there were a couple other states ahead of us but remember the time, it wasn't the case that primaries decided who the nominee was going to be. even though some states held primaries in the early 20th century, it wasn't the case that the candidate who won the most primaries became the nominee. that was still in the hands of party bosses. in other words, being first didn't matter all that much. a couple other states decided not to do the primary when they were doing it, so new hampshire by default up in line and became first. they were first for dec

we are not attached in the urban area, we sit in it northwest iowa. the conversations on immigration in the midwest in rural america we see communities with empty homes consolidating school district in storm like i will we have numerous schools that are overflowing are ready. the challenges that we have a housing crunch and a need for more housing because the manufacturers want to expand but we don't have the homes and apartments to put people. in my opinion it's a better problem to have all of that growth we experienced over three plus decades has our number one challenge has not been crime, it has been language. the ability to communicate with people and have the resources to learn their languages and provide services to folks who we may not have the interpreters, that is but our number one challenge. have we seen an increase in crime in our community? yes. not because of the change in demographics, the communities go, we have larger population that push numbers up. were one of the few agencies and i would that report out our crime stats by ethnicit

who's an audio-visual archivist at the bert hoover presidential library and museum in west branch, iowa, you made an interesting discovery recently while working with the home movies belonging to president hoover and first lady. what did you find? >> well, it was an interesting thing. i was working on evaluating the film, measuring for shrinkage and all that, and i noticed some of these black and white films had lines on each frame. i pulled it out to make sure i wasn't seeing things, seeing spots as it were and notice d te edge indicated thoerp kodakole lor, which to me, would be color film and you would see image of color in the frame, but they weren't and they looked further the dates indicated they early '30s, late '20s and did research and discovered kodacolor film was an early precursor to kodachrome. only exist ed from '28 to '35 ad the design of these films, the mechanics of the film, the lines i was looking at were little tiny microscopic lenses that would trap the color when filmed through a camera with a filter developed and then reprojected through that same filter on a proj
