he is writing this from jamaica. he did quite a bit of his writing from the caribbean islands. and how he is talking about how it looks like finally the book is on its way to be publishing. a project that alex sent 12 years researching and working on. and it all stems from the traditional african tradition of the grios, which is to recount the story from generation to generation. past ancestors, tribal custom, things like that. alex haley used to go to tennessee during the summer. he would go and his maternal grandmother would tell the story of kunta kinte. it stuck with him and got him to decide to do his geology and research his roots and so many years later have the saga of an american family. and really spearheaded the interest in genealogy and family reunion in the african-american community and the united states. he really started a movement about knowing where you are from and knowing your room and having an understanding of where your people came from. the original story which was told by his maternal grandmother who told to story -- i guess it was passed -- has down. h
