surely jared kushner isn't a target in any of that. nitial reporting says the same thing. we'll see how this develops, but it's hard to imagine a hypothetical set of circumstances where kushner would have any sort of liability related to comey for anything. maybe mueller, and i expect he will, will flush out all the possible problems associated with the situation, including the consideration of obstruction of justice, which i think is very difficult in the case of the president, of all people. nonetheless, gathering that information and getting documents from jared kushner is a natural part of the process. i'm not that surprised. i understand why people in the white house are uncomfortable with it. i agree with the reporting that the best thing they can do in the white house is press ahead on the agenda and actually do the job they were e lekted to do, instead of getting tied up. >> van, do you buy what ken is saying, this is standard? nothing to be concerned about in light of what we were talking with senator franken, jared kushner was

it's a very bad day for jared kushner. >> the communication we learned about this week between donald trump jr. and wikileaks, i mean, this is a sticking point here. could this amount to perjury for kushner? >> well, i think, you know, in and of itself it's going to be -- it can be a challenge because he's going to say i didn't remember that, i forgot that e-mail, et cetera, and i think what juliette was saying is, you know, the question is how much -- how many lies were there? what evidence does, for example, mueller have that he had this in his mind earlier. so let me give you an example. let's say that there's a lot of e-mail traffic about these direct messages. let's say he was on 100 e-mails about it, or there was recent e-mails discussing how much of a problem this could be if there was an investigation. then i could see there being a charge. if this was a one off e-mail that happened back during the campaign and nothing else came of it, it'll be harder to do. because your viewers should know that the federal prosecutors have to prove that you knowingly and willingly made a fals

the attorney for jared kushner abby lowell put out a statement saying senators are asking gotcha questions. here's what he told us. this is a classic gotcha question. mr. kushner was asked if he has contacts with wikileaks. gucifer or d.c. leaks, and he said no. he said he didn't know of any such contacts from the campaign. from all i have seen, his statement was accurate then as it is now, in over six hours of voluntary testimony, he asked all questions put to him and demonstrated there had not been any collusion between the campaign and russia. the attorney for jared kushner also saying that all documents have been requested by the committee were turned over. seems like there's a dispute about what documents they requested. that may mean as you said that jared kushner will head back to capitol hill to testify once more. >> those are the congressional probes into russia and the trump campaign and perhaps obstruction of justice issues. there's a special counsel investigation, boris. a prominent member of trump's inner circle is about to be interviewed by mueller's team. what can you tell u

kevin, i want to turn to these reports of jared kushner being pushed to the sidelines here. sources tell "the new york times" that mr. kushner has yet to be interviewed by mr. mueller's team worried that his conversations might have been picked up on a government authorized wiretap, or perhaps by russia or china. mr. kushner has become increasingly cautious about how he communicates, even with friends. what do you think is is actually going on here? do you think that john kelly might be helping jared by by keeping him out of the public eye because of the investigation, how do you see this? >> here's what i think. i think that there are varying competing factions within any administration or for that matter amongst any politician, to have influence amongst the principle, in this case, the president. and i think that this is a situation where jared kushner has some influence in certain issues. he had a lot of influence during the campaign, and to to, you know, when you look at comments that jared kushner has made publicly he's said that he's had to become more of a specialist,

pam, what did mueller's team discuss with jared kushner, according to sources?told the interview primarily focussed on former national security advisor michael flynn, that he was the dominant part of the conversation. it was a conversation and interview that lasted less than 90 minutes in this case. and this was something that happened earlier this month, this sitdown between jared kushner and members of special counsel robert mueller's team. so even though this was a situation, a discussion that focussed primarily on michael flynn, it's worth noting that jared kushner could be called back. he could be called back in front of special counsel to answer questions about other topics. we know michael flynn is the subject of the russia probe and there are reportings that he could reach a plea deal, so it would make sense that the team would speak to kushner about flynn. but again, he could be called back. we know that mueller's team has been asking other witnesses about kushner and his role in the firing of james comey. so we'll see what happens. >> this reporting we

jared kushner reportedly was one of the big forces behind getting reince priebus out as chief of staff and now look what happened. that led to john kelly coming in as chief of staff and he has really curbed jared kushner's access during the day to donald trump. and it is quite a striking difference. i sort of wonder, though, if the focus is there. we hear from that "the new york times" story as well that besides middle east peace and bringing government to the modern era, he is also working on nafta and re-entry of the american prisoners into society. this is a very wide ranging portfolio and you wonder how one person can handle all of this

it's -- we have more reporting fresh today, jared kushner, ivanka trump, might they be leaving the white house before the end of the year? >> i wouldn't put my money on them leaving just yet. i mean, if you know president trump, he tends to be mercurial. there are people who are close to him and there will be times that people will fall out of favor and come back in. look at attorney general jeff sessions, one of his closest allies throughout the acampaign and then they had a falling out. i think you might see the same thing here, where john kelly came in and set up a more structured arrangement within the white house, it means that jared kushner has to answer to him as opposed to all these years when he's answering to donald trump, who is not only the president, but also his father-in-law. so he's trying to find his space within this, his role has never really been defined and i think right now, they're trying to figure out exactly where it is. but at the end of the day, he and ivanka are family. so the idea that they're being pushed out might not be completely right. >> and jared kushn

jared kushner's lawyer put out a statement showing his client, mr. kushner, advised the campaign to pass on the meeting. but this man ends up at a dinner with donald trump jr. on the sidelines of this nra conference in may 2016 and donald trump jr.'s lawyer told me over the weekend they met, they shook hands, they exchanged pleasantries, then they went back to their tables. congressional investigators want to know more about that encounter coming just weeks before the june 2016 trump tower meeting between don jr. and another set of russians. another high level approach. >> if it was such a -- i love the word nothing burger, why didn't they disclose it? i want to share what jared kushner's lawyer said about not disclosing some of these documents to the judiciary committee. and again, it's republican chuck grassley who got so fired up, but look at this. >> if you look at the contents of this these e-mails, he's the hero, he's the one who's saying there shouldn't be any contacts with foreign officials or foreign entities. that's what the senate judiciar
