jason jason, and from real clear politics, a.b. stoddard. here's the pushback that this is some sort of corruption. the post office is a mess. it's been a mess. it's been losing money and it had to be fixed now. that's the argument on president trump's side. what do you see happening here? >> first, chris, i really want to thank you for spotlighting this story. i'm actually working on a piece about this and i've been really stunned by the research i've been doing and it's been a washington story and i think more americans need to understand what's going on beyond those who are working at the post office and know across the country that there have been huge slowdowns in the delivery of mail. so as these, quote, reforms have been instituted at the post office which slow down mail and therefore cause more loss in revenue, the new management is describing this as an effort to run it more like a business. this is not a business. this is a constitutionally enshrined government provided service through which veterans and many americans receive life-saving medications. we get our paychecks and social security checks and communicate with each other and on and on, more important than ever of course in a pandemic. these complaints have come from unions and postal workers around the country. congress in its alarm has asked the new management to explain this. they said these slowdowns are temporary. they're going to produce these efficiencies eventually and it's going to be no problem. the problem is president trump is doing it two steps. one, institute a new management at the post office with reforms that slow everything down. in one apartment complex in minneapolis, hundreds of people got their mail stopped for many, many days so they couldn't vote in the primary, didn't receive their ballots. at the same time, go to twitter and the microphones every other day and say the post office is a mess and the election won't be fair and free and everything will be riddled with fraud so that it really is slowed down by the time election day comes and people start to lose faith in the post office and then he can say that the election was a mess. >> yeah, and as you know, jasonconcern by a lot of democrats is that it's just one aspect of it. let me read something from "the new york times." imagine not just another florida but a dozen floridas, not just one set of lawsuits but a vast array of them. and instead of two restrained candidates staying out of sight and leaving the fight to surrogates, a sitting president of the united states unleashing all caps twitter blast from the oval office while seeking ways to use the power of his office to intervene. the possibility of an ugly november and perhaps even december and january has emerged more starkly in recent days as president trump complains that the election will be rigged and democrats accuse him of trying to make that a self-fulfilling prophecy. do you see a situation where, among other things, we have a problem with the post office, we have these ballots that don't get where they need to go in time, whether it's get to the people who want to fill them out or get where they need to go to get counted, we m

jason j fits. congressman jason che fitz, both of these candidates are prone to making comments that make shake your head at the very least, what role do you think these misstatements will play in this campaign? >> i think it does affect the voters, when you hear joe biden in the comfort of his basement with a teleprompter struggling to make cognitive statements in a coherent way, it's almost a daily basis that this happens, donald trump controls his own media agenda the way he's able to go out and social media and go out there and command the presence from the white house with the air force one with a podium of the white house as much more control of this but it does affect them and it's a real question for joe biden. chris: marie, i suspect you would say it's a question for both of them but here's the difference, we hear what president trump says everyday for better or worse, we tend to of gotten used to it but because of the lower profile, it comes as a shock the joe biden. here's what the former vice president said when he was asked whether or not he's taken a cognitive test. >> why the hell would i take a test, come on man, that's like saying you before you got of the program he got it test were you taking cocaine or not, what do you think. chris: marie, the former vice president is 77, if he's elected he would be 78 on in inauguration day, it's traditional for presidential candidates to release the full medical records although donald trump did not do that in 2016 but given the age of both of these men, should they both release a mental acuity records, what doctors have found before we get to the election? marie: absolutely, chris. i would call on both of them to do so. i am skeptical about donald trump will after he's reluctant to do so in the past but here's the thing, the american people know joe biden and they know donald trump, who these men are and how they talk publicly, a lot of voters say they like joe biden style even if they don't love everything that he says, i'm sure donald trump says of same thing about him. that's why it'll come down to the issues and how donald trump is dealing with these huge catastrophes that our country is dealing with and how joe biden says he'll do it differently because americans know them, these are not unknown figures to the american people. chris: i want to pick up on this question of style and gasps and misstatements, the president and his team have gone to such links to talk about how joe biden is out of it and i wonder if that could backfire on them in the debates, is there a danger that the lowering expectations too much for how the former vice president does when he is on the debate stage with president trump? josh: i don't think it matters if it's a two-hour debate or one hour debate, if he shows he's probably good for the first 30 minutes and then it gets dicey. i was pretty skeptical of this narrative about joe biden coming in because i thought it could be easily disproven but what you've seen over the last couple of months is a real liability, significant one, every time joe biden comes out of the basement he is a very regrettable experience in the campaign which is he did not embark upon, i cannot imagine that will change. i will savor the one person in all america that the coronavirus is working for is joe biden, he's able to staff the stage, stay out of the limelight in pre-produced packages that the merger people can see, i will say, i don't think the american people have a good idea joe biden because everything that they have seen has been prepackaged, pre-produced and put in front of them in a way that he can do himself. chris: let's turn to the big news that will come this week, maybe as early as tomorrow, joe biden is finally going to pick his running mate, i want each of you to give me who you think the vice president should pick and who we will pick and give me one sentence for both of them, jasonet's start with you. jason: massive enthusiasm for joe biden, who he should pick is michelle obama, although i don't think she would possibly entertainment, i do think he will end up picking the mayor from atlanta mayor bottoms, she's out of good profile and no voting record. chris: does she pass the presidential test that she's ready to step in? jason: no, no she doesn't, that's why think donald trump will win the election. jason miller. jason, thank you for joining us this morning. before we get into the meat of the interview, we extend our condolences to president trump and his family for the death of his younger brother robert last night. >> thank you. appreciate that very much. it's a very solemn here at trump headquarters. i know the president would very much appreciate those words, george. >> and do you have any idea -- i know the president was planning on campaigning every day this week, including going to wisconsin, will those plans have to be changed at this point? >> i haven't spoken with the president at this morning. we'll probably be putting some more information out there later this afternoon, possibly first day tomorrow morning. no changes at the moment. >> let's talk about bernie sanders, right now, he said that the president was undermining democracy by defunding the postal service, how do you respond? >> i think, george, you hit the nail on the head, when you asked bernie sanders what was his plan to fix this, and he punted to nancy pelosi who's on vacation, the entire house has taken an august recess. they're not even here dealing with it. i think it's a little disingenuous for the democrats to be making noise on this. not in february, march, april, may, popping up now. i think what's really going on here is, they're trying to change the rules and try to institute something that normally takes five, ten years to take place. the fact of the matter is, we've seen universal mail-in voting has been a disaster and to rush this -- everyone remembers the hanging chads in florida in 2000, imagine that in ten, 15 states across the country. >> in fact, jason, the democrats did take action early in the spring. they passed an emergency funding bill for the postal service. it's not just the democrats raising concerns about this right now, mitt romney the nominee for the republican party in 2012 has responded to these claims of possible widespread voter fraud. let's take a look. >> i don't know of any evidence that voting by mail would increase voter fraud. the good news is that, if there were some allegation of impropriety, get signatures matched with the voters. >> in fact, that's what's been happening in states where they have had elections. >> no, not at all. mitt romney is wrong. mitt romney was wrong in 2012 and blew the election to barack obama. which we should have won. mitt romney should take a look at patterson, new jersey, a quarter of the votes were thrown out. take a look at carolyn maloney, is the winner of that. look at nevada -- >> but let me stop right there, because when the votes are thrown out, that shows that the system a

jason miller per jason, there are a lot of things going on here. crooked is saying that biden will win if you just drag this thing out and sue and recount long enough like florida in 2000 or they are setting it up so they can delegitimize trump's second term and then nancy is basically admitting that in the highest echelons of the democratic establishment they don't think it's a good idea for joe to debate and they think trump will win or that biden will blow it and that they could actually get away with ducking because the media would let them slide. how do you see it? >> exactly. the democrats don't want to put joe biden up against president trump but i've got to comment in the intro when crooked was there it was blurry new shade of magenta and maybe we could call her crooked magenta or crayola and a new grant in the fox, a crooked color. here is the deal, joe biden is a pretty good debater. he is 47 years of practice on this and he was pretty good and i've gone back to watch the debates from 1987, 2007, 2008, 2012 and now and i think it is muscle memory. he's had this time in the basement to practice and get his lines down but here is what i think the democrats probably do. they probably wheel out joe biden to do one debate and then they cut loose and say we don't want to get president trump any oxygen or opportunity to go head to head ever again but look, whether it be the the ballot hag or whether it be trying to duck out of the debates, whether it be accusing president trump of anything else, i think the democrats can look to lie, cheat and steal. jesse: they are squarely and telegraphing the whole situation. the president has done something the way he usually does. he has thrown a little cloud of smoke into this whole debate thing and is accusing joe biden of maybe taking performance-enhancing drugs. let's listen to this. president trump: i don't now he could have been so incompetent in his debate performances and then all of a sudden be okay against bernie. if you go back and watch some of those debates he was so bad, he wasn't even coherent and against bernie he was. and we are calling for a drug test. jesse: jasontacted the debate commission and asked for a drug testing? >> you know what, maybe on monday that would be a letter we get out the door but on a serious note, do you think president trump is onto something and the fact that joe biden's regular day-to-day interviews he fumbles and stumbles and you wonder if he will say something like one of the 50 million people have been killed by gun violence or one under 20 million people have died from coronavirus. joe biden is a gaffe a minute or of course, the infamous you ain't black which was another one of the beauties coming from joe biden there. but when he gets into that debate stage, whether they program them or muscle memory for having been doing it for half a century, he can go and give a pretty good answer and he's been doing a pretty consistently for about a half century but i know the president takes an aspirin a day but we rattled joe biden's cage and we will see if he's juiced up. jesse: we don't know if he will use a mini fox to sta
