over the past couple of days, some of the people involved david axelrod, jay carney suggested that was never a consideration. was this a big deal or not a big deal? >> a big deal in the following sense. have you a presidency at the low point, after the last round of budget negotiations in 2011. the president's poll numbers are down. he's seen as weak. bill dal y, white house chief of staff at the time, look, we have to consider, as he said the other day, we have to consider every option. one thing to look at, do the due diligence, lets test it, lets see how obama clinton does compared to obama/biden. now, when the results came back it showed it didn't help that much and didn't go forward. but it is sort of extraordinary. if you think about the white house chief of staff, the top advisers. it was a very small group that knew about this david plouffe, axelrod, the president's pollster. for that group of people to say, look, we need to take a look at this, even though they knew it was a long shot and there would be a downside. it was certainly part of the history of this administration. s

joining me to talk more about investing in this market, bernie williams from usaa, jay bill, sandy lincoln, and david saurby from loomis sales and company. thank you for joining us. >> thank you. >> here we are -- it's great to have you. thanks for joining us. we have so many thousands and thousands of portfolio managers talking about this market. once again, when i meant thousands here at the schwab impact conference and market still at all-time highs, even if just barely. what do you take away from that? >> it's great on one level but seems unright. but when you look at the fundamentals behind it, and we're certainly overweighted with regard to the equity side of the equation but lots of reasons to be there. great operating margins. probably the best in the world in the u.s. margins that are not only great. revenue doing better than expected. earnings doing better than expected. valuations are reasonable. balance sheets are good. there's reason to be optimistic. at the same time, investors have had risk drift in here. they haven't been conscience but equity portfolio is up 30%. bond portfolio might

david: not everybody does, jay.ame out with a pretty critical review of it saying among other things, that the cylindrical object gets in the way. how have your other critics received it? >> well, it has been received very well so far. you can't win them all but the sales have been very strong so far. the reviews have been very strong. i personally use one and i love it. >> by the way, walt mossberg, our own guy reviewed, one of our products, suggesting that it had too little storage. he generally liked innovation. you guys are always innovating and you're doing it in remarkable way but too little storage. have you dealt with that issue at all? >> well, sure. with the tablets you can actually in the case of yoga tablet you can add storage to it yourself if that is a problem for you. on the computer side, what you find is that people are starting to really like solid state hard drives which is less storage but much, much faster. they're storing in the cloud or on a central device somewhere. so we are very comfortable

david nakamura. we just hear ted cruz invoking president reagan suggesting he's like reagan. is that a fair comparison? >> probably not. jay leno sort of challenged him, sort of said i don't think reagan would be able to within a primary or be able to sort of appeal to the tea party right now. that's something jeb bush said a year ago during the campaign that you know, and that's something president obama has said, as well. i think you know, people go on a show like leno to try to broaden their appeal and soften their edge. cruz faced a few tough questions from leno and i think he handled it fairly well, but you know, he sort of tried to say i'm not so extreme. the only reason i shut down the government was because president obama refused to negotiate on the bigger budget principles. but at the same time, i think leno did expose some of the points that ted cruz is trying to get away from with his father saying extreme comments and gay marriage. cruz didn't answer those, as well. it will be interesting to see how his appeal is able to broaden or not or whether he stays limited to the tea party base. >> listen to more of wha
