chief meteorologist jeremy reiner is tracking the latest on the hurricane. >> reporter: it is just now moving right over the eastern tip of cuba, moved over the western tip of haiti earlier as a devastating category 4 storm. it maintains that category 4 status this evening and will hold on to that for the next 24-48 hours. we do have hurricane warnings in effect for cuba, haiti as well as the watches and hurricane watches in effect for florida. miami is under a tropical storm watch then you move north of there melbourne, that is where you have the hurricane watch meaning hurricane conditions likely within the next 48 hours. so the latest thinking from the hurricane center is that it continues on that northerly track around 9 miles-an-hour then heads northwest through the bahamas perhaps right over nassau. sometime thursday afternoon. never does m the coast. so this is going to be a rough go for florida as well as georgia and south carolina. from there, up to north carolina, the hurricane center thinks it's likely to pass southeast of new england late saturday night and sunday morning.

jeremy reiner beginning team 7 coverage in the weather center. >> reporter: this is hurricane matthew. next up will be the bahamas. late tonight and tomorrow morning we have hurricane warnings in effect for bahamas as well as florida including miami north of daytona beach. the watches and warnings being tropical storm watch lesser effects from the storm. the storm track this is from the hurricane center a category 3 storm now. likely maintains that intensity tonight through tomorrow morning. nasa from there it takes aim on florida. this is going to be close. may try to make land fall near veera beach. this number here that's a 4. that 3 moving through na winds at 130 miles per hour. it moves over the space coast. it curves northeast paralleling the georgia, south carolina coastline. doesn't make it to north carolina t. loops back around. this takes new england off the table in terms of effecting our weather. i want to show you the wind speed forecast from the european model. the intense wind speeds 80 miles jump ahead west palm beach wind jumps to 70 miles per hour. 105 miles per hour

here's jeremy reiner. >> jeremy: winds at 105mph moving north at 12mph. category storm. also on the satellite picture here, the warmest colors here. that's where you have your strongest winds off shore. that's the good news there. and likely the stay off shore carolina, early tomorrow morning. at that time it's even weaker than category one storm. then it continues along the north and south carolina coastline. and then it loops back around and weakens significantly next week. it may find its way back into the bahamas next week, but it will be a shadow of itself, nothing like this. this is a powerhouse storm. again, it's moving just east of the georgia coastline heading up toward the south carolina coastline. there's the eyeball. that's where you have 105mph winds. that's off shore. going to be tissue. it will be inland flooding. upward of 6 to 10 inches of rain. then you talk about the storm surge, coastal flooding six to nine feet. brunswick, savannah, up toward charleston and north of charleston four to six feet. our weather, a few showers. i'll have more in a few minu

let's send it over to chief meteorologist jeremy reiner for the latest. >> unfortunately, a lot of heavy rain as well as high winds, and a storm surge, too, along the east coast of florida. first, the bahamas. nassau, freeport, again, these numbers here indicating the category strength based on the salver simpson scale. -- saffir-simpson scale. you'll notice the number increases to a number 4 as it approaches the east coast of florida. the red line, this is is the latest forecast track from the hurricane center. they've actually inched it a little bit closer to the east coast of flo, titusville sometime late tomorrow night, early friday morning. it's a category iv storm, 130 mile-an-hour winds, and perhaps even as far inland as orlando. they may see winds gusting 65 to 70 miles per hour. but the brunt of it will be focused right at the coastline, pretty much along the 95 corridor from miami up through jacksonville. then from there, it does move northeast along the georgia and south carolina coastline, weakening some but still a category ii hurricane and then it loops back to the south, a
