jessica castro is covering the fires for us this morning. we'll have a live report from her in a few minutes. >> alexis monitoring the roads. we want to start with you, mike, what is going on today? >> the national weather service issued a wind advisory. that means winds will kick up to dangerous levels once again about 30 to 50 miles an hour. now it could down some trees and some power lines, maybe shake some branches free. a lot of that was taken care of sunday night. picking up embers and moving them south, more spotty fires could develop and coinciding with that is a red flag warning, high fire danger starts at 5:00 this afternoon through 5:00 tomorrow afternoon in the north bay. 11:00 this evening through 5:00 tomorrow afternoon. east bay hills into the diablo range. >>> a lot of road closures continue here in the north bay as you would expect with all of these fires. we'll get to a few of the major ones here anywhere you see purple on our traffic maps you can assume all lanes are blocked in the area. state route 128 between chalk hill

firefighters have set up a command center in santa rosa and that's where we find our colleague jessica castro who is live. jessica? >> reporter: hi, good morning, reggie. the latest information we have there are three fires burning here around the city of santa rosa. that would be the tubbs, the nuns, and the partrick fires. the tubbs fire has grown to just under 30,000 acres. the nuns fire still continuing to threaten the southern part of santa rosa and we learned this morning there is some damage to the oakmont neighborhood. and then they're dealing with that partrick fire and that has grown to 1,900 acres. and hopefully you're looking at video here of some of the volunteers getting ready from the sonoma fair grounds getting ready to go out today expecting it to be a tough day as some new red flag warnings could come in to play. all of this while so many first responders deal with the loss of their own homes. >> yes, so myself, several of my friends, i understand we have at least seven of us from santa

first we start with jessica castro live in santa rosa. we just got this update from sonoma county officials. >> reporter: reggie and the update is jaw dropping. it is a staggering number of people that are currently missing right now. the sonoma county sheriff's department says they have reports of 670 people they have been able to locate 110 of those. they are hoping that bad cell phone service here in this area is to blame. there are 73 cell phone towers down in the state of california. they have assembled a 30-member missing person's team. the sheriff's department says that this is still a life-saving operation and they are telling everyone living in sonoma county if you do not have to be here, go now. they say the best route is to drive south through marin county. >> yeah, i can't stress this enough. if you're in an evacuation zone, you cannot come home. we are not letting anybody into any of the neighborhoods that have been evacuated or burned. they're all sealed off. we have had very few problems with looters. we made an arrest last

amy holly fe llyfield is in sonb we'll start with jessica castro about the death toll going up again. >> reporter: yes, the numbers just continue to grow. the number of fatalities now at 14 in sonoma county. making it the county with the most deaths associated from these wildfires. we have also learned that there are still 463 people missing. unfortunately, we heard from the sonoma county sheriff that they have moved into a recovery effort. and if they are unable to find them missing by tracking down relatives or friends, they are now doing targeted searches. >> we're using search and rescue team members, not law enforcement. they are law enforcement associated, but not people that can do evacs, so we are spreading our resources very wisely. and we have cadaver dogs that can scent bodies and help us find people. so that is the the identity indicatification i be hard. we have found bodies that are almost completely intact and we have found bodies that were nothing more than ash and bones. >> reporter: so this midday, it is certainly a grim reality. some other important notes, the sheri

abc 7's jessica castro with a look at the latest numbers. jessica? >> hi, kristen, i have a very handy tool to show you the progress and want to start with the atlas fire, the largest wildfire burning in napa county, also burning in parts of sonoma county. this morning, it's up at 68% containment. meanwhile the tubbs fire that burned more than 4,600 acres is up to 70% containment. that is the one that hit hard in santa rosa. it has been the deadliest in the north bay. the nuns fire, this is from where matt just gave us a live report, was threatening the robert mundavi winery, decimated parts of glen ellen also in sonoma county. that's also at 50% containment. the pocket fire also in issonom county near geyserville at more than 11,000 ike eacres. 40% containment. oakmont, the smallest fire burning, only 800 acres but also in sonoma county where they have a lot to deal with, right near the oakmont community, just 15% containment. lastly here, want to show you redwood and sulfur fires. the redwood fire in mendocino county, it's at 50% contained. burned

i'm jessica castro, abc7 news. >> well, today a family's worst fear was realized. stacey, the wife of a san francisco police officer, was confirmed dead in las vegas as a result of the shooting. tonight family and friends gathered for a candle light vigil in novato. she was the wife of san francisco police officer vinny . the brother-in-law says he has no doubt that stacy died trying to help others, even after her husband told her to run for safety. >> when the shooting occurred, that, you know, it was all about helping other people. so, when my brother went out to help other folks and put her in safety and told her to run out of there, she didn't run out of there. she came back and helped other people as well. so, that's when they got separated and from there we don't really know what happened. >> officer echiber was not injured. he drove several to the hospital, and came back to look for stacey. the everything was closed off. the couple has two children. >>> another bay area woman died. denise lived in santa barbara county but attended high school in san ramon, t

i'm jessica castro, abc 7 news. >>> a tragic turn of events for a butte county family. a home spared by an 8,000 acre wildfire north of sacramento ended up burning down in another fire. the attic of the home in cherokee near oroville somehow caught on fire wednesday afternoon. a cause for the fire has not been determined. the nearby cherokee wildfire was fully contained on tuesday. >>> president trump welcomed puerto rico's governor to the white house this morning. and the president applauded the federal government's response on the hurricane-ravaged island. mr. trump and the governor met for 40 minutes with reporters at the white house. the president gave the federal government the highest marks for the hurricane response. this despite widespread criticism by some that the administration has not done in huff to provide relief. >> between a one and ten, how would you grade the white house' response? >> a ten. the most difficult when you talk about relief, when you talk about search, when you talk about all of the different levels. >> much of the island remains without e

. >> jessica castro is live in the las vegas strip with more on one particularly emotional reunion. >> reporter: if day one was margd by shock and disbelief, day two seems to be the start healing process. in fact, what has been most touching is survivors coming back to the crime scene including one woman from the bay area and talking about their experience, hoping to move forward. >> an emotional hug between two survivors. she was at the concert with her boyfriend. i asked her what was running through her mind as she revisited the crime scene. >> i think of all the times i was running and hiding into balconies, just looking for a safe place. it sounded like people were chase go me with bullets. do i stay? run? is this a safe spot? trying to figure out where he was. >> reporter: they got separated during chaos. she took shelter in a nearby casino. meanwhile her boyfriend ended up at the hospital with a bullet in his left arm. >> i feel silly showing this compared to the others. bullets did not damage any major parts. just leave it. it is safer that way. if they try to remove it, would

i'm jessica castro, kristen will be in later today. >>> new this midday, a looter who targeted evacuees running away. matt keller has the story. >> reporter: cal fire's goal, get the bear fire to hibernate. overnight temperatures and higher humidities helped control the flames. the acreage didn't grow, it stalled, but containment doubled to 10%. about 600 firefighters are now battling this blaze. >> thank you very much for being here to assist us and have a safe shift. >> reporter: terrain makes this fire dangerous. five firefighters were injured early yesterday morning. and overnight, another injury, a firefighter suffered burns on his hands. >> the report we got was for second degree burns, he should be okay. >> reporter: the fire is in the same spot as yesterday, bear canyon, deer creek area. they've been getting calls about reaching saratoga. santa cruz, and other populated areas. >> the message that would be great to get out is just that the location of the fire is not threatening, you know, populated areas of other communities other than the areas that are evacuated right now. >>
