let's go to weather channel meteorologist jim cantore in dallas. and jim, talk us through where this is headed. >> reporter: well, brian, nothing could come good of this. today if you look at the temperature map, jordan, montana, was 30 degrees below zero while orlando, florida, was at 85. that's a 115-degree temperature spread. two storms. the first one continues to move up through the mississippi valley and heading into the northeast with ice and snow. but here's the second storm with advisories all the way to the coastline and into california and nevada again. let's take it by piece. saturday, after the storm produces snow on the las vegas strip it comes back out with ice and sleet once again in these same areas that got it today. sunday the snow pushes across washington, d.c., possibly as far north as new york. it will change to rain there, but not before a messy rush hour along i-95. once the storm pulls out the nation is left in the deep freeze with record setting low for the southwest. >> jim cantore for us in dallas on a friday night. jim, t

>> jim cantore, thanks. >>> much of europe has been hit hard by severe weather in recent days, parts of england and scotland were slammed by severe flooding and hurricane force winds forcing the evacuation of thousands of people. it was described as one of the worst storms in more than half a century. it brought snow to other parts of europe, the weather was blamed for the deaths of at least eight people and here in soweto, south africa, we have thunder and lightning here that drove people off the streets that were celebrating much of the day. tomorrow is the official day of prayer and reflection here in south africa, part of a ten-day period of mourning over the death of nelson mandela. behind me the house he once lived in, now a museum where crowds gathered throughout the day, many of them old enough to have experienced firsthand the oppression under the white minority government and then their children born into free south africa, all of them today paying tribute to mandela hen ace legacy. richard engel is also in south africa and has more tonight from the current mandela home. ri

joining me from andover, massachusetts is weather channel meteorologist jim cantore. the course of the next few days. >> alex, first of all, to add onto these airport things you've been discussing, airport data points, 5,000 flights just out of dallas alone, 5,000 flights out of dallas alone since last thursday. of the 1300 today, 720 are in dallas-ft. worth. so even after the event we saw so much ice caked on the return ways it has not had time to melt. here in andover, massachusetts, 25 miles north of boston, it's just a drizzle. we started out at snow, 26 degrees this morning. you can see it covered the ground. interstate 93 behind me moving well. they know the drill here in new england. there's a lot more snow removal equipment up here than there is in dallas, texas, or washington, d.c., for that matter, to get the precipitation out of the way. everything moving along swimmingly this afternoon. there will be slick spots developing probably by the time tuesday night rolls around. before we get there, you just said it, we have another event we have to go through. thi

we want to check in with meteorologist jim cantore from dallas.bly colder than here, in fact. >> reporter: we're sit ageting 5 degrees. you're right. it is cold. the problem is we're going down to 19 tonight. even though the roads have improved swimmingly since our ice event this morning, we'll refreeze all of this tonight. my hats off to the texas department of transportation. so, here we go. let me just set the stage for you. we get a quarter to half inch of ice. then we get 3 to 4 inches of sleet on top of that. they're salting, they did all the prework yesterday with the pre-emergence and pretty much kept these areas clear. especially the high overpasses. even though the cars are moving slowly, they seem to be moving along a little faster, certainly, than they were this morning when it was just absolutely glare ice through here. the real problems have been at the airports. i mean, we've had 1300 flights cancel today in and out of dallas/ft. worth. a normal day with traffic out of dfw is about 1700 aircraft. so, three-quarters of the flights at

living legend jim cantore is in the middle of it all outside of boston. >> there's nothing worse thanfresh inch of snow on the ground followed by drizzle. it is on the roads behind us too along with the salt spread this morning. this is interstate 93, traffic moving from left to right going down towards boston. everything is moving along fine. we should have a fine rush hour this evening as most of the major thoroughfares are just fine. notice this parking lot. if we don't see this stuff removed by time wednesday morning rolls around it's expected to be in the low teens and single digits here. all of this will be one big cake of ice. now, there's more snow in the forecast. who will be impacted by this? it looks like the i-95 corridor. 3 to 6 inches possible for d.c., baltimore, even philadelphia in play. this will be during the heat of the rush hour tomorrow morning. all right? so there will be major airport delays and travel delays. once the storm moves north, new york and boston get in the snow as we get just past the rush hour, we'll see airport delays and travel delays also move n

weather channel's jim cantore has the latest. >> reporter: i expect to get hammered on by snow when i'm out here. that did not happen here in baltimore, at least in the downtown area. north and west, 20, 40 miles, 70 miles, anywhere from 4 to 6 inches of snow. and actually it was a rough commute coming in. the winter storm warnings verified swimmingly. here in the downtown area, we didn't snow at an intense enough rate, right around 3 degrees, we needed a couple degrees cooler to get this to stick. you can see where it did stick on the grass. now the piles that you see, all right, that one, this one, that came from sunday's little overachieving storm we had where we had exactly 1.6 inches at bwi airport. either way travel was horrible to say the least this morning along the i-95 and many routes north and west of the major metropolitan areas. cool off for thursday, big chill, teens, piles like this will become solid ice chunks and as we look into the weekend, another winter storm comes calling. this one more than likely for new york, d.c., philly and baltimore. will be sleet changing qui

jim cantore of the weather channel. that storm not having a huge impact on gas prices. epperson for today's pump patrol. >> as the middle of the country bears the brunt of a wintry snowstorm drivers in oklahoma city may find cold comfort in the ftc they're paying the lowest price at $2.68 a gallon. driving around in the region may be difficult but there are four states where the average price is below 3% a gallon. oklahoma, kansas, nebraska and missouri. we are seeing the national average tick up a bit, about a penny higher at $3.26 a gallon. prices could continue to rise after the positive jobs report we got for november. new jobs mean more commuters on the road and an increase in gasoline demand. we're seeing gasoline futures at a 12-week high. that's today's pump patrol. safe driving over the weekend. back to you. >> all right. thank you, sharon. you too. up next, the already hot stock that one analyst sees going another 20% higher. >> wow. plus a single biggest sign of a huge and delicious housing bubble. clients are always learning more to make their money do more.

the weather channel's jim cantore is in dallas with more. jim, how is it there?er: yeah, it's pretty nasty. a raw day in dallas, the upper 20s, the winds are blowing out of the north at about 25 miles per hour. we've got moderate sleet coming down. and that actually may be our saving grace here. these little pellets that come out of the sky of sleet don't tend to accumulate on trees and power lines. however, we've had at times freezing drizzle, as well, and that's been the biggest issue here. the roads are actually pretty decent if you don't go too fast. but notice this pin oak here with the leaves still on it. huge area of ice accretion. a tremendous area of weight added to the tree. the wind is pretty much the kicker in what eventually takes the trees down. we've got 130,000 now without power. and considering this is a metro area of about 6 million, that's not too bad. but i think as we go on through the day and this continues, we've still got a lot of power outages to go, guys. and there's another round of freezing rain on the way for arkansas, for north texas
