tomorrow morning jim kenny will be sworn in as the city's 99th mayor. he'll take the oath of office in front of his predecessor. nbc 10 drew smith spoke to kenny this morning. he's live at the academy of music. what is kenny's first priority of mayor? >> reporter: the mayor elect is focussed on the poverty issue here in philadelphia. it leads to a lot of other problems, he said, like drugs and violence on the streets here. he's going to start getting to that when he gets into office on tuesday. there's something to take care of tomorrow. the inauguration. it will be a little different than you might expect. there are no gowns or tuxes. no ball at the end of the night. instead they're calling it a block party. we saw crews cleaning up the streets and organizers prepping the academy of music for the ceremony. kenny told us what his main message will be when he takes office. >> every neighborhood is the same as far as how we treat them. the service they receive and attention they get. no one neighborhood is more important than the other. >> reporter: and t

. >> jim kenny is speaking out about the ambush of a philadelphia police officer which was caught on chilling surveillance video you see here. a suspect who said he shot the officer in the name of islam is now charged. >> good evening, i'm denise nakano, edward archer was arraigned on charges that included attempted murder for thursday night's shooting of jesse hartnett. archer was officially charged, cameras were not allowed in the courtroom. he was arraigned on a total of eight charges, including four felonies. a judge did not grant bail and archer's due back in court january 25th for a preliminary hearing. nbc10 just talked to edward archer's grandfather who did not want to be on camera, he tells us he was not aware his grandson had any mental issues. archer was raised baptist, but converted to islam several years ago, he went to mecca for a year or two, and when he came back, he was a changed person. we have team coverage on the impact of this ambush, both for police and the muslim community. we begin with george spencer, live at penn presbyterian hospital. george, you spoke to s
