let's get to jonathan hall live on the scene withor jon. >> reporter: lots of excitement here in west roxbury steps away from the catholic memorial football field. here is the bank. it's the city of boston credit union. you can see a boston police officer who is right by the front door. the sign says closed. here is the story, just before 4:00 this afternoon, an armed gunman went into the bank apparently to commit a robbery. what he didn't know was boston police routinely do a detail here. there was a police officer officer who surprised the suspect. he ran with a gun with a late ex-mask on, was chased down, tackle and arrested. so we have sky 7 over the scene. getting shots from different angles here. there are a number of employees inside the building who are being spoken to. there is a bang robbery task force which has shown up to complete their investigation. unclear at this point whether with any money. that is something the boston police are still looking into and we hope to get more information coming up a bit later. reporting live in west roxbury, i'm jonathan hall, 7 news. >>

jonathan hall live at the hospital with the latest. and reported last night they should be okay, right? >> reporter: we are learning that, kim. we have been here all day. at first, you know, the prognosis was not good. word came out these officers were in extreme c condition. hours wore on, surgeries happened and now we're hearing the officers are egg expected to pull through. still critical but they are expected to pull through. the commissioner credits officers for their bravery. some opened fire on the suspect. >> several other officers immediately with the gunfire going on moved quickly to the two wounded officers, quickly removed them from the line of fire and got them out of there. not only removed their wounded comrades from the danger zone, they began medical treatment on them, especially officer matthew morris, a 12-year veteran of the department who had a bullet strike an artery in his leg. he required a turn quit. >>> i had to -- turn kit. >>> i had to depend officers for rushing into the building with no fear whatsoever. >>
