cathy, did marco rubio's visit swing this election for joni ernst. >> no i think joni ernst was pulling from the pack before marco rubio touched down in des moines. she has to win 35% of the vote in iowa, that is an election rule. if nobody gets 35%, this ends up in a convention situation. but, des moines register had a poll that showed her after 36%. i expect her total to only go up from there. >> you mentioned the convention and them not wanting it decided there. how worry are establishment republicans about the race being decided by party activists at the convention? >> i don't think they are that the worried now. i think earlier in the year there was some concern about that. there is still a republican and a democratic congressional race, however, first and third district open seats where a convention is more likely to happen. i think in this case joni ernst was 18 points ahead of her closest competitor and that seems like it's probably going to be enough to get her over the hump. >> casey, let's go to your neck of the woods. how have voters reacted to the bizarre story about the nu

our editor at large cory johnson spoke with author of "jony ive." and he is the editor and publisher and has covered apple for more than a decade. we were joined by one the most widely followed analysts, founder and author of simco. he came from finland to attend the conference. we asked him how the conference stacked up. >> i think it was amazing. one of the best shows. >> why? >> you need to get out more. >> it was very different. >> no, you are right about that. i was a developer when i was at college. for me, when they announced the new language, it was a watershed event. these things do not come as often. apple has three of these in its entirety existence. what it means for developers is productivity, massive increase in types of applications they can build. it was all about all of these building blocks which have flooded in. 4000 api's. i do not think they have done anything close to 2000. it is mind-boggling. my concern is that developer community, it was a wonderful event. if i put my hat on as a business analyst, that was not a lot to get e

the other notable races that i'm most focused on, iowa, jon joni ernst.er behalf than joni herself in her own primary. perhaps this is the new normal, we'll see h this more and more in primary campaigns. but it is unprecedented that outside groups and in this case you have some tea party groups, mainstream business groups like the chamber, all sort of supporting her and propping her up. but you do have to ask yourself why hasn't she been able to capitalize and raise more money on her own behalf, spend more money on her own behalf. do you really want to be going into a long-term general election where you're relying almost exclusively on outside groups. and then there's california. while jerry brown -- the jerry brown race, he's going to win re-election and might win by a big number, could get over 60%, an unprecedented number. but if the republicans nominate tim donnelly as their candidate, it will be interesting to see how the rest of the republicans in that state handle him. do they totally distance themselves? do they say they're not going to be suppor

joni ernst will be facing off against bruce braly.hich presumes if you've only heard one thing about republican joni ernst, you've probably heard about her and the ad for castrating. so the bruce braley campaign is just starting there. >> we've all heard the one about pigs squealing, but when joni ernst had the chance to do something in iowa, we didn't hear a peep. in the state senate, ernst never sponsored a bill to cut pork, never wrote one measure to slash spending. in fact, the iowa republican says she backed measures to actually increase spending. >> so it's going to be peeping chicks versus squealing pigs in the iowa senate race for tom harkin's seat. and i cannot say that i'm not in favor of us pushing this barnyard theme as far as it will go for that seat. but like in montana, this iowa candidate has a very hard-core abortion record, including sponsoring a personhood constitution amendment, which would make all abortion criminal in every case, even for rape victims, and that would ban popular forms of birth control. so, the be

they ran christine o'donnell and yet joni ernst has broad republican backing. have lessons not been learned? >> the republican party is sort of like the family that lives in the neighborhood. they come concerned about the safety of their family. so they decide to get a guard dog. they pick out a puppy and they scratch the puppy. and the puppy is wagging his tail. then he grows up and starts biting the children. that is what the tea party party is republican party. >> it is a dog off the leash in many ways. this was supposed to be the year when some sense descended on the republican party. and you have seen moves from certain folks in the establishment like carl rove to put a leash on the dog to use the governor's analogy. yet it doesn't seem to be making much of a difference in the primaries. >> it has made a difference because republican incumbents haven't moved quickly to the right to escape the jaws of that hungry dog that you were just describing have survived generally speaking. today one way to look at today is it is sort of the last gasp of the tea party
