julian assange's lawyer does not see it that way. i want to read a statement from his uk lawyer which says that the uk courts will need to resolve what appears to be an unpres denned effort by the united states seeking extradite a foreign journalist for publishing truthful information. the charge is conspiring to hack a justice department computer. the charges are that when chelsea manning was a private in the united states army in iraq back en2010 and she was leaking war log and state department cables to weekikileaks and assa. the indictment doesn't say she was successful. by conspiring and agreeing to that the indictment says assange was guilty of a crime that's punishable by up to five years in prison and therefore subject to extradition. now, there is precedent for people accused of hacking crimes in the uk of not being extradited. it's not a sure thing that assange will be extradited. it's a sure thing that justice department officials for years have been wanting to bring assange to justice for what they saw as damaging leaks.
