to give you some idea where that is, we're about 2 miles actually west of the kaiser permanente hospital. so we're west of highway 101 from the hospital, one of the two hospitals in santa rosa that had to be evacuated. a neighbor here tells me that this burned out area that you see behind me, home after home after home, it's about 1 1/2 miles by a 1/2 mile. every single house is gone. the cars and trucks left lining the street, they're burned out shells, melted tires, yet right in front of us the owner's car is sitting right there untouched. it doesn't make much sense, but this entire neighborhood essentially has been wiped out except for one homeowner who apparently stayed behind. firefighters gave him a fire hose. he fought the fire and saved the homes on the outside perimeter of this neighborhood,

kaiser permanente had to be evacuated.n was the last time you saw a hospital evacuating patients? that is how close the fire got two major structures. it burned mobile homes and the gun shop and strip malls which is awful of course. but any time they shut down a hospital and force people to evacuate and they bring in city buses, that was unprecedented in my career as well. i've never seen anything like that. they shut down stores and did not allow anybody to come into santa rosa. commuters had to go to other parts of the state and had to go around this area. they were told to take other routes. maybe take five all the way up because 101 was closed. they locked down the area to allow first responders the limited resources to get to the locations. just seeing kaiser permanente evacuate, and i was there, it was a chilling site. they were moving older and fragile patients. and in the background, darya, you saw it with that glow. we asked today and kaiser permanente has a better situation and there is no imminent threat today.>
